Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
We are a co-writing team of best friends who share imaginary worlds, including a short story, Shivers, published in Moments Between.
Lisa Marie Potter (BIPOC): I am a mom of four who grew up in Nottingham, England, home of Robin Hood, and now reside in Alaska with my husband and golden retriever, Samson.
Amanda Nelson: I grew up in Maryland and moved to Arizona, where I attended Arizona State University. I currently live in Mesa with my husband and four kids.
We are both active in writing and critique groups, review books on our socials, and love to hike the Olympic National Park while fighting over our shared fictional crushes.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our debut title, Men In Books Aren’t Better, will be released on November 25th. The second in the series, Just What the Doctor Hired, will come out the following year.
As hopeless romantics and fans of the 90’s classic movie Pretty Woman, Lisa-Marie suggested we write a gender-swapped version and make it our own- and Men In Books Aren’t Better was born!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
As a writing duo, we need to coordinate schedules to ensure we are both online at the same time to discuss plot details and see edits to the manuscript in real-time. Also, since we reside in different states with different time zones, our writing schedules can be erratic.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Our friendship and writing career solidified when I (Amanda) introduced the Twilight series to Lisa-Marie. After reading the books, we decided to try writing ourselves, and here we are.
What are you working on now?
We are currently in the editing stage of book two in the Plus One series, Just What the Doctor Hired, and hope to have it out by the end of next year.
We are also revising our YA speculative time travel manuscript, which we will submit to our agent also by the end of next year.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Haha, we are still trying to figure that out! We are contacting bloggers, influencers, and interview sites like this. We also purchased a promotional package on BookBuzz that allowed our book to be featured on NetGalley and various blog sites. And of course, we are posting as much as we can on our social media platforms.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get thick skin and just keep swimming. This industry is slow and tough, so perseverance is key. Also, there are many roads on the writing journey, go with whichever feels most comfortable for you and own it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Pretty much exactly the advice we gave for new authors. Get thick skin and just keep swimming!
What are you reading now?
Currently, Lisa-Marie is reading an ARC, Yule Tide by Brian Anderson, and Amanda is beta reading The Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by Keshia McEntire.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Our goal is to finish the final book in the Plus One series and to get our YA speculative time travel novel published.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. If it weren’t for that book, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
