Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a journalist and producer specializing in East Europe – because I am from East Europe and I speak several languages of this region. I wrote five books, which were recently published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The title of the last book is “Love in Communism. A Young Woman’s Adult Story”. The eBook was published just a few days ago, on January 27, 2025.
Inspiration was my husband. He is a Dutchman, knew little about the Soviet Union, and asked me to tell more about the hidden sides of the communist paradise. So, I did it in the book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing special: I like a quiet environment, without background noise and music. And without interruptions.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can not even tell all of them. It is a life process I read many books. Each one left a curve in my brain. Would be unfair to mention just a few of them, and the rest not. Unfair to the authors who worked hard to create the books, and also unfair to myself because today I think this is the book that changed me, but tomorrow I shall recall another wonderful book.
What are you working on now?
I am busy with two projects from the series “Cooking and Politics”. The first book was already published: “Russian Colonial Food. Journey through the dissolved Communist Empire”.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Podcast, video, personal meeting with readers. This gives a special touch to both sides. For me as an author is important to see and hear the reactions of people to my book(s).
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep working, don’t get discouraged. The road can be bumpy but don’t give up.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Nobody will love you more than your mother. When you lose your mother – you feel very mature you are not a child anymore. It is true when my mother passed away I felt like an orphan.
What are you reading now?
Now I read a lot of diaries, old newspapers, history books, posters and so on. Everything that crosses my eyes. All in connection with my new two projects for the series “Cooking and Politics”.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish started projects, to bring quality read for my readers.
