Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Turkish Delight are my debut novel. But I have been writing for years through my work with communications, social media and digital marketing.
Just last week, one of my horror novels got selected for a Halloween anthology, for a Danish Publisher. So yay me! 😉
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The inspiration for Turkish Delight came from countless holidays in Turkey with family and friends for over 20 years. Throughout the journeys, I collected an abundance of amusing and outrageous tales and stories. In 2021 I wrote everything down and started putting bits and pieces together, to create Turkish Delight.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m seeing myself as a sprint-writer. I’m not writing everyday. In fact, most days I don’t. But when I write, I’m writing fast and maybe 12-14 hours a day. I get obsessed. Can’t sleep, can’t think. This is how Turkish Delight was writen in just 1 month.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many, many different ones. I spent almost all my time at the local library as a child and young teenager. (And most likely has an unofficial local record in the number of books borrowed and read per week!).
But one of the most influencial ones, regarding the amount of humor I put in my book, is a Danish Writer, Dennis Jürgensen. He wrote a book called “Kærlighed ved første hik” (Love at first hickup). That book made me laugh so hard, the tears was running down my face! And that was amazing! Written words, that made me laugh my head of. I wanted to do that as well.
What are you working on now?
Right now I’m writing on Turkish Delight 2, and I also have a lot of other ideas for childrens books, horror stories and some sci-fi/fantasy, but that’s later down the road.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m fairly new to the international marked, so I’m still in the trial & error fase. So far, I’m trying to get reviews from bloggers, and I’m running Facebook ads, which works okay. + I prioritize my own webpage and Instagram as well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be prepared to work your behind of and don’t expect to much from your first book. Almost no one makes is to the bestseller top, without heavy promotion and a big bag of luck.
Keep writing, don’t lose hope, only take advise from people you trust and most importantly: Remember that reviews are not reflecting your skills, but only says something about that peticuliar reader’s taste. 😉
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Listen to the ones, who went before you. They have experience and know-how. BUT, also find your own way. Just because something didn’t work for them, doesn’t mean it won’t work for you.
What are you reading now?
A fantasy book: “Path of the taker” by Simon Grund Sørensen (Danish author, but he writes in English and publishes on Amazon – Go check him out, he’s good!)
What’s next for you as a writer?
World domination! 😉 Or something of like that. My big plan is to make Turkish Delight, and the following two books in the same series, the go-to summer/beach read for women 40+, the next couple of years.
I would also really love to see it made into a movie.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s difficult. I’m not really a “I have ONE favorite”-anything. But I enjoy everything that’s a little weird, very funny or completely mindblowing.
