Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written eight books so far: two novels, five novellas, and one collection of short stories and poems. One horror/thriller, ‘Dead of Winter,’ won first place in a 2021 contest on Inkitt, while my dystopian adventure/horror-ish novel, ‘Nobody’s Daughter,’ won a 2022 Watty Award in the Science Fiction category.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
This year, I wanted to set a challenge for myself, so I’m writing my first-ever Paranormal Romance. It’s called ‘Tooth & Claw,’ and is available in serial format on the Kindle Vella platform.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Besides being a “pantser,” it’s an all-or-nothing situation when it comes to my writing process. There’ll be times when all I do is sit in front of a laptop and churn out chapters, followed by extended periods of mulling and brooding. I need to find a happy medium! ;D
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a die-hard horror fan and a thriller junkie, so I read tons of Stephen King, H. P. Lovecraft, Carol Goodman, J. R. Erickson, and Wendy Webb.
What are you working on now?
I’m trying to finish ‘Tooth & Claw’ right now. After that, I’ll probably tackle the sequel to ‘The Haunting of Sky Hollow,’ which I’ve wanted to do for some time.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use a variety of platforms, including my author’s website and social media. Sometimes, it feels exhausting.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Anything worth doing takes time and effort. A great deal of time and effort. There’s no such thing as an “overnight success.” Although it can and will be really frustrating, focus on the writing process and find enjoyment in that, even on your worst days. Always put process over product.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Sometimes, fear is the best teacher. Do the thing that scares you and you will be the better person for doing it.
What are you reading now?
‘Head Like a Hole,’ by Andrew Van Wey. It’s wonderfully creepy and suspenseful, and also the kind of story that, as you’re reading it, makes you wish this had been your idea.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Learn how to leverage social media to my advantage and attract more readers. I’m not one of these people with a huge online presence or a gazillion followers, so this is an ongoing challenge.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I have too many to name! Since I’m always reading, there’s always something new to fall in love with. But if I had to pinpoint the root of my lifelong love of horror, I’d have to say this began with the Brothers Grimm. Sounds corny, doesn’t it? Oh, well! ;D
