Arsenio Franklin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I had a master’s degree in public relations and was working for a tiny PR firm in 2016 when I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder. There’s not a better time to quit your job and pursue your passion than when life can’t get any worse. Luckily my wife has a good career.

Unholy Revelations is my first published book and I just finished my first novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unholy Revelations is the name of my latest book. The story has been in my head since college. I actually tried writing it down several times before graduation but never got far. It’s been so long I’m not sure where the idea came from, but I thought about it sporadically and finally typed it out.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think so.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Haruki Marukami is my favorite author. I love the small details, like how a character cooked his meal. They never feel unnecessary.

What are you working on now?
I’m writing a novel call The Horologist. A horologist is someone who studies the measure of time.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love sites like this. I want to focus on writing, and these sites make it easy for me to promote my work and provide readers with insight into my work.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. The best thing I can do when I’m stuck is to write. It may be crap I’ll never use, or I may surprise myself and open up something entirely new.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t let fear hold you back. It’s okay to be scared, but it shouldn’t stop you from doing something.

What are you reading now?
Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Novels. I just finished one called Little Big Brother that will be published soon.

What is your favorite book of all time?
It’s a tie. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and The Book of Basketball by Bill Simmons.
