Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I don’t think it will ever feel comfortable talking about myself… But, here goes…
I love living in the country. Neighborhoods make me feel claustrophobic.
I homeschool my four children. Yes, they’re socialized and continue to amaze me every day with their kind hearts.
My creative outlet (outside of writing) includes any medium to produce artwork. Oil painting and watercolor are two of my faves.
I enjoy playing piano, but it’s a lot more fun to watch my children display that love music. Especially because they are way more talented than I ever thought of being.
I like following my husband around and doing whatever he likes, as of right now that includes deadlifts at the gym and training for our first Spartan Race. It’s the Beast…in case you’re wondering.
And the books I’ve written include, Fireflies in June (a novella for my subscribers), Four More Words, Your Drowning Heart, and The Consequence of Audrey.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Like the Sassafras Trees. Gosh, this book. This entire Mount Vernon Series is a little heavier than my other books. Like the Sassafras Trees was inspired by my mom’s first marriage. I’ve always thought that her story of strength and perseverance is one for the books. It was my privilege to depict her story in this series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Absolutely! I like to sit cross-legged or lay prone on the floor in front of my little space heater when I’m writing.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Oof, sooo many. Francesca Lia Block got me into reading when I was a teen and inspired some of my first short stories I wrote in high school. Colleen Hoover’s writing style made me brave enough to publish my first book. And Mia Sheridan inspired me to write about uncommon topics.
What are you working on now?
I’ve just finished an ebook that’s exclusive to my subscribers called Fireflies in June. It’s a novella and the prequel to Like the Sassafras Trees. I’ve also written roughly half of my manuscript for Book 2 in the Mount Vernon Series, called Like the Cardinal Cries.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Good question. I’m still figuring that one out…
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t. Give. Up. Writer’s block happens. Feeling like ‘this is too big’ happens. Wanting to hold down the Backspace key happens. But just keep writing. I believe we all have a story to tell and figuring out YOUR writing style is a learning process for everyone.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Extend a helping hand to the poor and needy, and speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”
What are you reading now?
Most of All You

Finishing the Mount Vernon Series
What is your favorite book of all time?
