Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a detective in Connecticut and currently handle crime against children, in particular sexual abuse. I have extensive experience in narcotics and SWAT. I apply my background to the characters I create and the circumstances they face. I’ve completed three works in the Nick Lawrence Series: The Camel’s Back (Book 1), The Lion’s Mouth (Book 2), and The Rabbit’s Hole (Book 3 – Released November 23rd, 2018).
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book in the Nick Lawrence series is The Rabbit’s Hole. I wanted to delve deep into the mind of killer and tie in the motivations to Nick’s secret past.
There’s an interesting plot twist in this story and I hope readers enjoy the direction I took this book and the series.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I get up early, usually waking around 4:00 a.m., so that I can get a solid three hours of writing in before the day begins. I work full time as a detective and have young daughters that demand much of my time and energy. If I don’t write early then my day can quickly derail my writing process.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The first book I feel in love was S.E. Hniton’s The Outsiders. Since that book I was bitten by the reading bug and have been an avid reader ever since.
I enjoy Tom Clancy, Jeffrey Deaver, David Baldacci, and Lee Child. James Patterson’s relentless work ethic inspired me as a writer. He showed me that it was possible to write and publish while working full time.
What are you working on now?
Without revealing too much, I’m working on a project involving a female ex-military police officer’s return home after a deployment and finds herself called to help with a local investigation.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I would gather that I’m more able to easily gauge the effectiveness of my adds on Amazon. Bookbub has been beneficial in spreading my reach and I’ve put forth a heavy effort with Facebook. I believe that advertising is constantly changing and requires a watchful eye. What works one day may not on the next.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Connect with other authors in your genre. I’ve found that the writing community is the most supportive group of people that I’ve ever encountered.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t listen to losers. It sounds harsh, but there is a simple truth in that statement. Many have insight to give, but be mindful of those that dispense it without having their own success.
What are you reading now?
Jason Kasper’s book Greatest Enemy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m working on the conceptual design of the fourth book in my Nick Lawrence series. I’ve got a bunch of other story ideas for different series or stand alone books. I just need to find the time to write them.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Without Remorse by Tom Clancy.
