Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write under two names because I write dark fantasy as well as really spicy romance. Currently, I have 7 romances with 2 of those being fantasy romances and the other 5 contemporary romances. Under my other name, I have a dark fantasy trilogy.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book which comes out March 1st, 2023, is called Hans: Stones of Duhaem. It is inspired by the fairytale ‘Red Riding Hood’. The difference here is that ‘Red’ is actually a capable and scarred Dark elf warrior, and the wolf happens to be a prince from a neighbouring kingdom.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Normally I use my lap desk and sit on my couch as I write while my cat sleeps half on me and half on my laptop. It works great!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would say Tamora Pierce, Kirsten Cashore and Sarah Dessen have all heavily influenced me. They had these characters that were raw and real (and not perfect) and I wanted to bring that in my own books. You can still have a spicy romance with real characters and awkward bedroom talk.
What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second dark fantasy trilogy as I have the first book outlined and hope to have it published by August, 2023.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method for promoting my books is between my monthly newsletter and Tiktik. I recently joined Tiktik and I really enjoy the positive vibe from the booktok community.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Know what your end goal is. If the end goal is to be traditionally published, a bestseller, and not have to pay for your editing, then follow the steps to do that and don’t get distracted on the path. But if your goal is to have a book published that you can show off to friends and neighbours, and don’t plan to make this your main income source or job, then follow that path instead. If you know what the end goal looks like, you will have a much easier time wading through the resources as well as find happiness in the success you find.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I had came from a friend in university, and she said, “You can’t edit a blank page. So just write the whole book and then come back and edit it.” So I did. Self-editing can really slow you down as a writer, so I try to separate my writing from my editing.
What are you reading now?
Currently reading, “For the Throne “(Wilderwood, #2) by Hannah F. Whitten. I loved the first book and am already halfway through the second.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am planning to complete my fantasy romance series and move on to dark fantasy romance. I have been playing around with some ideas and have even outlined a few books that I think I will really enjoy writing and exploring the characters.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine.
