Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m not quite sure the genre I fit into, but I find that where I write significantly influences the story’s mood and how it unfolds. I love writing without a filter and letting the story tell itself. I love exploring how different characters would uniquely handle situations, and I hope my characters feel real because of that. I have written three books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Treacherous Tide and the Stubborn Sandcastle is my latest book and was inspired by my grandparents.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Every book is different. For the last one, my writing habit was especially unusual. I would ride a rickety bike up a mountain, about 500 meters in elevation, to this small town in southern Italy. After arriving at a little bench under an overpass, I would eat my snacks, drink my thermos of coffee, and change out of my sweaty clothes into something warmer as it was quite cold. Then I would pull out my notebook, and the story seemed to pour out as if it wanted to be told.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Recently, I realized my style is a bit on the dark side. If I go as far back as possible, I loved the Series of Unfortunate Events books when I was a kid. I blame Lemony Snicket for the way I’ve turned out. 🙂
What are you working on now?
I’m learning Chinese, so I’m killing two birds with one stone: writing in Chinese. I get to practice handwriting and tell the story of a bitter, broken detective trying to find a kidnapped young girl. If you want a challenge, try writing in a new language in which you are nowhere near proficient.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have absolutely no idea how to promote books.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. Write because you love to. Write the stories that are begging to be set free by your fingers.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Happiness is like a buffet. No plate ever looks the same.
What are you reading now?
Last night I finished Murdering Our Memories by E Foster B.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a few story ideas in mind but can’t find the time to bring them to life. In a perfect world, I would buy a cabin in the woods and pump out the stories clawing at my cranium.
What is your favorite book of all time?
It’s hard to say, but the first one that comes to mind is The Gunslinger by Stephen King.
