Vera Persiyanova

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I haven’t always been a writer. In fact, I’m an artist. But I wasn’t always an artist either. It’s quite a long story, but I’ll try to keep it brief.
I was born in a country that no longer exists, and for the past 10 years, I’ve been living in the Kingdom of Wonder. This isn’t a joke. I was born in the Soviet Union, in Siberia, and now I live in Cambodia, which is also known as the Kingdom of Wonder.
I spent the first half of my life dedicated to medicine and science, I even completed my PhD thesis, but that’s a long story in itself and not particularly relevant to the present.
As I approached 50, I moved to Cambodia and picked up a paintbrush, and that’s where I became an artist. This passion led me around the world, and now my paintings can be found in 20 countries.
Recently, I’ve been captivated by a new passion – writing.
Currently, I have two book series.
The first is about my journey as an artist, my travels, encounters, and paintings. At the moment, there are three books in this series, with a fourth one planned.
The second series is science fiction and adventure. So far, the first book in this series has been published, and I’m working on the second. The third one exists too, but only in my mind for now.
What surprised me recently while editing the second book was the realization that it incorporates Kant’s philosophical paradigm of the “thing-in-itself” and some references to Schopenhauer’s “On the Basis of Morality.” These elements are naturally woven into the plot. I used to be seriously interested in philosophy, but I never consciously intended to include it in the book. It happened subtly and organically. Well, I suppose that’s how it’s meant to be.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest published book is “Insomnia: Strange Faces and Lost Dreams.” I’m not sure if I can call it a full-fledged book; it’s more like an expanded chapter from the previous book, “Fate and Art: Bridging Time.” I wouldn’t say it was inspired, per se. It was more about the state of insomnia being so exhausting that I decided to write about it, to share my thoughts, feelings, and… paintings. After all, insomnia doesn’t just steal sleep, but dreams too… it changes one’s personality, and that’s dangerous, not just in a medical sense.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if this counts as an unusual writing habit, but I usually write in bed. Half-sitting, half-lying down, with my laptop on my knees. This position allows me to stay in one place for a long time, as it’s quite comfortable and relaxed. There are downsides, though. Taking more frequent breaks would make the writing process more effective, but sometimes I’m just too lazy to get up…
I also write down dreams that I manage to remember, and nighttime thoughts that sometimes turn out to be unexpectedly interesting, which then naturally fit into the plot of my next book. Although sometimes a thought seems almost genius at night, only to look like complete nonsense in the morning. But that’s normal; it’s just consciousness playing tricks along with the subconscious…

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Ah, here too, it turns out to be a strange cocktail with very different ingredients, but for me, it leaves a long, deep aftertaste, a sense of the beauty of the world and humanity.
The good old fantasy classic – Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings” saga literally consumed me in its time. I don’t know if I’ll reread it, but it left something grand, unusual, warm, and heroic in my memory.
Erich Maria Remarque also made an indelible impression on me in his time.
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry – definitely. But not so much “The Little Prince,” although that fairy tale is wonderful in itself. Rather, “Wind, Sand and Stars” and “Night Flight.” The author was a pilot himself, and he opens up a world from above for the reader, where there are no unnecessary details, and everything comes together in a fascinating picture.
And lastly, I’ll mention “Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality” by Eliezer S. Yudkowsky. At first glance, it’s just fanfiction. But since it was written not by a writer, but by a scientist who was at the forefront of AI, it turned out to be an absolutely amazing work. This book is not for children, unlike the original. You can reread it several times, and each time something new is revealed.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the second and third books in the “Primordial Flow” series. It seems there will be a fourth one as well, but I’m not sure what it will be about yet. I just feel it coming. This series seems to write itself, emerging from nowhere, and its plot twists sometimes surprise even me.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As a new author, I’m currently testing all methods of promoting my books. I don’t think there are ready-made solutions or links for this. A book needs to find its specific audience, and I don’t know where that will happen. Not yet, anyway. Maybe I’ll never know. But time will tell.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m a new author myself… But I suppose I can share some advice. It’s not necessary to follow it, as with any advice.
Author, don’t stop. Don’t give up. Work on your book until you start to get engrossed in it yourself, until it becomes the book you would want to read. And remember, this is only the first part of the journey. The main obstacles await your book after publication… And this is where it’s especially important not to stop.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Oh, this was funny. It wasn’t even advice. It was more of a friendly conversation, and it happened in France, at the home of a good friend I met in Cambodia. He offered to let me paint a wall in his restaurant in France, and naturally, I agreed.
One evening, we were sitting in his house by the extinguished fireplace, and he said to me, “I’ll do it, even if it’s not normal. Because I want to do it.”
This thought is dangerous, like a sharp knife. But we use knives every day to make salads, for example… It all depends on whose hands the knife is in, doesn’t it?

What are you reading now?
I’m rereading Yudkowsky again. He has not only fanfiction but also several original works.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have some ideas about this, but first I need to finish my two book series. I think it will be some kind of mix of art and science fiction. Because this is close to me, as an artist, as a former scientist, as a person who never ceases to be amazed by this world.

What is your favorite book of all time?
It’s hard to choose one. Let it be “Wind, Sand and Stars”

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I don’t consider myself an author, more of a hobby writer. My first book, Survival Guide for the Working World, was purely an accident. I had finished university and found myself with spare time. I was also in a mood where I was irritated with the behaviours around me. In polite society, we don’t express those kinds of thoughts out loud; that’s for your inside voice. So I started writing, and all sorts of things came out.

Once I was several topics into my ramblings, I realized I might have something worth sharing. So I went back and re-wrote a lot of the content, so it was fit for public consumption. And here we are today.

My writing is based on life experience with a desire to share the lessons I’ve learned with others to save them a little pain and shave some time off the learning curve. I am not going to claim to be any kind of expert, I am a sharer of hard lessons learned and years of experience in all sorts of work environments.

In total I have three published books.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled, It’s All Relative: One Family’s Story of Kidney Disease.
When I was told that my kidneys were on a downward decline, I was devastated. I needed to get those emotions out. So I wrote down everything I was feeling. Then I left the story I wrote and didn’t look at it again. As my decline continued, I decided rather than feeling sorry for myself, I wondered if my story and the stories of my family would help others.

So I asked my family if they would be willing to share. What resulted was our book: It’s All Relative. Our collaboration is intended to raise awareness for Polycystic Kidney Disease along with proceeds from the book being donated to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I start with my closing sentence or the thought that I want to leave people with. I have such a hard time getting started but I know where I want to be.

What are you working on now?
I have a couple of more pieces in the works that are very different from each other. They are:
What its REALLY like to be a woman
and
Breaking Bad Habits of Change

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still working on figuring that out.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep trying, and write for yourself first.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Consider anything you write as deck boards, when it no longer works where it is, pry it up and move it somewhere else — Gail Gravelines

What are you reading now?
Magic Slays by Ilona Andrews.

What is your favorite book of all time?
That is a very tough question. I have so many favourites!

David A. Caren

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m David, and I’m basically obsessed with helping high-achievers go from stressed-out overachievers to relaxed and efficient high-performers. I’ve written a few books (like 3 so far, still working on quite a few more) on the topic because I’ve spent a ton of time working with people who are constantly on the edge of burnout. My books are like a toolkit for helping people reclaim their mental and emotional resources so they can really make a bigger difference in the world with their special spice. Can’t do that if you’re burned out, now can you?

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called “Don’t Let Burnout Kill You!” It was inspired by seeing so many people push themselves way too hard—like, to the point where their health is seriously at risk. There’s this story about Arianna Huffington collapsing from exhaustion, and it hit me hard. I realized a lot of people need to know how to avoid that, so I wrote a book that shows you how to stay successful without burning out. I also included 7 unique ways to relieve stress, eliminate overwhelm and avoid burnout. I made sure they could fit into a high-achievers schedule, so each one is 5 minutes, and can be applied repeatedly, as needed. Over time, they create new, healthy habits for PROCESSING emotions, that go beyond simply coping or managing them.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t say they’re super weird, but I do like to get into a really chill, almost meditative state before I write. It helps me tap into deeper ideas. Also, I keep a notebook next to my bed because sometimes the best ideas hit me in my dreams, and I don’t want to lose them!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Carl Jung and Milton Erickson are big influences—they’re like the OGs of understanding the subconscious mind. Also, books like “Thrive” by Arianna Huffington and “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl have really shaped how I think about success and happiness. They’re all about balancing your drive with taking care of your mind and body.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on some cool stuff like turning my Emotional Optimization ideas into courses and workshops for people who want to level up their lives. I’m also writing a new book that digs even deeper into how to use your emotions to become an unstoppable force in whatever you do.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
LinkedIn is my go-to because that’s where all the high-achievers hang out. I also use my website, DavidACaren.com, to connect with people who want more resources and support beyond what’s in the books. Combining smart content with good SEO and social media is pretty much how I get the word out. Also, building relationships with people helps a ton.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Totally! My advice is to write about what you’re passionate about. People can tell when you’re being real, and that’s what they connect with. Don’t worry about being perfect—focus on sharing something that really matters to you, and the rest will follow.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve heard is, “Be authentic, not perfect.” It reminds me that people connect more with real, honest work than with something that’s trying too hard to be flawless. It’s a huge mindset shift that’s helped me a lot.

What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m into “The Body Keeps the Score” by Bessel van der Kolk—it’s all about how your body holds onto stress and trauma, which is super relevant to my work. I’m also reading “Atomic Habits” by James Clear because I’m always looking for ways to improve how I do things.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next up, I’m writing the actual book on Emotional Optimization. Plus, I’m planning to take my books to the next level by turning them into online courses and maybe even a podcast. I’m also thinking about writing a book just for female high-achievers, helping them deal with the unique challenges they face while still crushing their goals.

What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s a tough one, but I’d have to say “Man’s Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl. It’s all about finding purpose even in the hardest situations, and it’s really shaped how I look at life and success.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Tim Nash, I enjoy crafting spine-chilling tales that blend the futuristic unknown of Science Fiction with the eerie realms of horror. I bring you into worlds filled with a unique fusion of science fiction and horror, creating nightmarish worlds that linger long after the final chapter. I have grown up on a steady diet of classic science fiction and horror, which at the time many were new and just released. I was born on Halloween Night at 8 pm and have become part of the horror and science fiction genre ever since.

Discover the thrilling worlds of my Sci-Fi and Horror, where imaginative futures collide with spine-chilling mysteries. I dive into futuristic realms filled with advanced technology and alien encounters, or explore dark, eerie landscapes. I currently have 12 books published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Warhawks 2 : Nepus Menace
A ruthless empire teeters on the brink of galactic domination, and the Milky Way is their next target. The Nepus—a fearsome warrior race known for their relentless conquests—launches an invasion that threatens to engulf two distant worlds in a desperate fight for survival. As the galaxy faces annihilation, a fragile alliance forms in the fires of resistance, but the odds are bleak. WarHawks 2 – Nepus Menace is a high-stakes sci-fi epic where the fate of humanity and its allies hangs in the balance, and victory may demand the ultimate sacrifice.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that I am aware of. Thanks for asking.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I draw inspiration from Ray Bradbury for his weaving stories into short stories which launch you into another way of seeing things around you. In his TV show opening he explains how he begins his writing by looking around and finding what is interesting today. H.P. Lovecraft for his cosmic horror, Stephen King style for writing in thought provoking ways, and Mary Shelley for the way she fused science and terror.

What are you working on now?
I am working on my WarHawks 3 Final Trilogy Book due for release in December 2024.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my YouTube channel, My Facebook page and my Allauthor page.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what scares you. If you’re genuinely frightened by what you’re putting on the page, that fear will translate to your readers. For Science fiction dream big, create grand locations and fill it with characters you enjoy reading about.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” It’s a reminder to focus on the present moment, use the resources at hand, and take action rather than waiting for perfect conditions. It emphasizes resilience, resourcefulness, and the importance of making the best out of any situation.

I am currently reading nothing.

Bryan Mitchell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Martinsville and raised mostly in North Carolina. I’ve been married for fourteen years and have two sons. I have a lab named Sadie and two cats, Midnight and Jewel. My two books are Infernal Fall and Almost Paradise both of them are award winners. My third book will be out on April 1st unless my publisher is playing a mean prank on me.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Almost Paradise takes place right after Infernal Fall. It may end up being a duology with various spinoffs. C.S. Lewis’s The Great Divorce and The Screwtape Letters along with Dante’s Inferno were my inspiration for this book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I find that ideas come while I’m in motion so jogging helps me to generate and formulate and even when things are unclear I know that sitting in front of a computer typing the work is enough to drive the story home. I may go over the first few chapters a few times but after that I don’t revise until after the second draft is complete even if I’m aware of plotholes. I’ll note and fix them in those cases on the next swing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
All the classics. Tolkien and Lewis. Sanderson and Jordan. King and Koontz. There are many others.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on the first spin-off from my Infernal Fall series. It’s a middle grade called Iffy Eats Monsters for Breakfast. Do note that Infernal Fall is for young adults and up. Iffy will be a fun imaginative story for everyone, especially kids unfamiliar with my more mature works.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m not very good at promoting. I rely on others and I really need to get better at that. My publisher uses various online promotions where the ebooks are free for certain days to generate more interest and more reviews (hopefully) with Freebooksy and others. I’ve used written word media successfully. I’ve heard many people say to do this and/or that, but my main drive is to write really good stories. They say content is king and I really hope that’s so.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get your work critiqued. Hire a good editor. Don’t rely on one source such as a single book on writing. Take time to learn from multiple sources. Read good works and use that as inspiration. Make your characters believable. Use an economy of words. Write every day. If publishers and agents reject your work, it doesn’t mean you can’t be successful. Keep going and keep your head up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is to do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

What are you reading now?
I’m enjoying The Nightmare Virus by Nadine Brandes.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After Iffy, I plan to start another adult novel and continue to improve my craft. In the back of my mind, I’m considering what I may teach if I’m ever asked to.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Way of Kings.

Aneta Waclaw

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My previous background is in hairstyling, having worked in salons where I honed my skills in creativity and connection with clients. Recently, I’ve made the transition to full-time writing, driven by my desire to share the valuable lessons I’ve learned from personal experiences, particularly from relationships that, while challenging, taught me profound lessons. Through my writing, my goal is to educate and inspire others by sharing these insights. I firmly believe that we become what we tell ourselves we are. ‘Blooming with Self Love’ is my first book and it was created to help you cultivate a mindset to believe you are capable of anything and everything you desire. Let’s Bloom together!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My first book, Blooming with Self Love, is a collection of affirmations and a gratitude journal inspired by my belief that what you feed your mind shapes who you become. Growing up, I lacked the emotional stability and positive mindset to uplift myself. I always yearned to cultivate a stronger, more mature mindset, and my past relationships left me broken, forcing me to rebuild my self-love from the ground up. Writing Blooming with Self Love is my way of offering a gift to others who are struggling with their inner thoughts, helping them become the person they are called to be.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love exploring new coffee shops or sitting in a park and writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The very first book I willingly read was “School of Greatness” by Lewis Howes. Ever since I had picked up that book it changed the way I was viewing everything and it really sparked a light through me.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a book that explores the characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. Offering guidance on how to cultivate and attract more fulfilling relationships.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I enjoy using drafts 2 digital because it connects a variety of sources to one link.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If I could give one piece of advice I would say just write and get your thoughts out. The more thoughts you get out the more you have to work with. You can edit the content later, but first get it out on paper, google doc, etc.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You may think you’re too old to start, today is the youngest you’ll ever be so start today.

What are you reading now?
Five Keys of Self Love by Hina yu Cao

What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue writing and sharing my experiences and lessons with others.

Donna Higton

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Donna, I live in the centre of England, where I can be found eating chocolate biscuits, reading, occasionally writing, and singing (badly) along to 90’s music. I’ve written 2 books – Fall in Love With Life and Obstacle Busting.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Obstacle Busting is the last book I published, and it was an accident! It was meant to be a 20 page free ebook to go along with a course I was creating. And it morphed into a 50 thousand word book!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
For my latest book, I have not set a deadline, not pushed myself (I stressed myself out trying to speed write and publish the other 2!). It’s taking forever, but I haven’t been stressed! (Think I’ll go for some kind of middle ground next time!)

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are far too many to mention. I’ve been a bookworm since I was first able to read, and every single author and book has fed my love for books and writing.

What are you working on now?
Feel Good Foundations is the book I’m working on right now, and it was inspired by years of coaching clients about making their lives better. The feel good foundations are the things I always get my clients to work on first, because when the foundations are strong, the rest of life is easier.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Talk about them ten times more than you are comfortable with! People’s attention spans are short – 5 years after I released my first book I realised several people I knew relatively well didn’t know I wrote at all! Even though I felt like I’d talked about it endlessly!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Ok, I know it’s basic. But you can’t get your book done unless you write. So write. Then write some more. Write through the bad days. Write through the good days. Write through the self-doubt. And just keep writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just keep swimming.

What are you reading now?
A detective series set in the 2nd world war; Patriarchy Stress Disorder; and about 15 others I’ve started and not (yet) finished.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Feel Good Foundations will hopefully be out at the end of this year, then I’m going back to a book I wrote over 15 years ago to see if it can be revived, updated, edited properly and released.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I can’t pick one. I have a hundred or more books I read over and over again.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Story de Pedro O’Brien.

It’s inspired by modern day labor exploitation, both foreign and domestic and all the powerful groups that profit and evolve the practice….but it’s humorous I swear.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nahh. Don’t over think it. You don’t have to be an overt weirdo to be a creative. Being a covert weirdo is far more effective. Helps you blend in and get more material.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My writing style, for better or worse, isn’t all that influenced by other authors. I don’t seek to be like or not like any other writer. I just do it because if I don’t the world feels stale.

But I’m quite influenced spiritually by philosophy books.

What are you working on now?
The next novella of The Story de Pedro O’Brien along with 2 full novels based in the same world.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
http://www.philosophiesdead.com/

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Avoid Net Galley for beta reviews. They trashed the ARC I gave out to get feedback on my final version. Not fair.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t drink Tequila. Definitely don’t drink it alone.

What are you reading now?
The Orphan Master’s son

What’s next for you as a writer?
Obviously fame and glory.
