I’m an entrepreneur who has been through a lot in my past and decided that writing is one way to get my truth out and help others recognize theirs along the way!! I believe that my books can truly assist people with flourishing in their lives and attaining true peace and happiness.

My latest book is called “How to get over your ex and rebuild your life”. Caroline Helenasdotter

Caroline HelenasdotterTell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Swedish author born in 1986, and I write erotic/romantic fantasy set in Scandinavian historical settings. My main female characters are always women over the age of 35. I feel there is a real lack of older female protagonists in the romantic/erotic fantasy genre, and I aim to change that by normalizing women of all ages as central characters in these stories.

Women my age read a lot of books, and I find it unfulfilling that most main characters are under the age of 20 or in their early twenties. I want to read about characters I can relate to, who are not young enough to be my daughters. While the new adult and young adult fantasy genres are really huge right now, I want to put the spotlight on more mature women who are grounded in their lives and have a lot of life experience.

Just because we grow out of our twenties does not mean that we want to stop going on adventures or experiencing new things. We still want to embark on fantasy quests and travel to other dimensions, even as we grow older. It is unfortunate that there is a stigma surrounding aging as a woman in today's society. No one should be ashamed of aging, and it is time to normalize women of all ages in the romantic/erotic fantasy genre.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Before I wrote Enchanted by the Skogsrå, my book Whispers of the Nordic Draugr was published. It is a romantic fantasy set in 16th century Scandinavia, about a woman named Katarina who is possessed by a mare that haunts her at night. She feels desperate and hopeless as this demon tries to claim her life and sanity.

Ulrik, the master of the estate where she works, has just returned from the war as a changed man. He has always been in love with Katarina and vows to protect her. However, Ulrik is haunted by his complicated past. It turns out that Ulrik had been turned into a draugr, a demonic creature, during the war and had escaped his cruel master. While Ulrik protects Katarina, the danger of his master draws closer, threatening them all.

This story incorporates many magical creatures from Scandinavian folklore. As always, my stories are inspired by love, folklore, mythology, fairy tales, nature, magical beings, and the journey of connecting with oneself and one's true essence.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Since I have two young children, I only have time to write at night. I love to eat licorice while writing. From what I understand, many countries find it peculiar that Scandinavians enjoy salty candy.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I grew up loving fairy tales. As a child, I used to read the fairy tales by Jan Lööf, Astrid Lindgren, and Tove Jansson. I loved the Moomins when I was a child, and today, I read the same stories to my own children. My daughter loves Pippi Longstocking, and my son loves the many stories by Jan Lööf.

I have vivid memories of the anthology of Swedish fairy tales, Among Gnomes and Trolls, illustrated by John Bauer. Even today, I strive to keep that dark and mysterious vibe in my stories. While I aim for a darker, more erotic/romantic tone than the artwork of John Bauer, I draw a lot of inspiration for new stories from his paintings.

When I was a teenager, I completely fell in love with the Harry Potter universe and the Lord of the Rings universe.

What are you working on now?
Certainly! Here is the corrected version of your interview answer:

I am working on several projects right now. Enchanted by the Skogsrå is part one of my series Lustful Legends. These are erotic short stories set in historical Scandinavia about women who encounter different kinds of magical beings.

Currently, I am working on a fantasy erotica about a woman in 15th century Denmark who is saved by an elver, a mist spirit in Scandinavian folklore. The mist spirit shows Rindr (the main character) his kingdom in the underworld, and they fall in love. However, associating with magical creatures is forbidden and comes with great risk. The villagers want Rindr to pay for her transgression, while the elverfolk are in a feud with the stallo, a type of mountain giant.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Certainly! Here is the corrected version of your interview answer:

I find that marketing is one of the most difficult aspects of being an author. I think many authors agree with me on this. What I would recommend is building a name for yourself on social media and cultivating loyal followers. The bookstagram community has meant a lot to me; their support is invaluable. There are several Instagram and TikTok book tours that bookstagrammers arrange. In this day and age, being visible on social media is essential. Submitting your book to book bloggers has also worked for me. Basically, you want to get as much exposure as possible for your books. Marketing sometimes feels like a full-time job and it can be exhausting. Finding a strategy that works for your brand is essential.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Make a lot of author friends. These people will provide invaluable support and help you when things feel rough. Having other author friends will greatly improve your literary journey.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Only follow advice from people you strive to be like

What are you reading now?
I am doing a lot of ARC reading and beta reading to help other authors with their work. Right now, I am reading I Drank from the Nile by Kateryna Duzhenko.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will continue with the Lustful Legends series. Book two will come out later this fall. I am also working on a fantasy book about a female soldier who dresses up as a man to fight in the Carolean army under the Swedish King Charles XII. At the end of the 17th century, Sweden was one of the most powerful empires in Europe with one of the most feared armies. The Caroleans were known for not fearing death and being extremely loyal soldiers. King Carolus is one of the most controversial kings in Swedish history. He was known for sharing the life of his beloved army, spending his entire life in battle, never demanding anything from his soldiers that he himself would not do. He always wore the Carolean uniform without a crown and ranks, riding first into battle alongside his soldiers, sleeping out on the ground without a tent, and eating only what the soldiers were offered.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I have so many favorites, it's difficult to choose just one. But if I had to pick, I might say The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry or The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Both of these fairy tales are enchantingly beautiful and carry deep, profound meanings.

Stacey Laviolette

Stacey LavioletteTell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m Stacey Laviolette, a dedicated mom from Ontario, Canada, and the creator of the "My Friend Toothy®" series. My journey began with my daughter Piper's dental struggles, which inspired me to create a fun and engaging way for kids to learn about dental hygiene. So far, I’ve written eight books in the "My Friend Toothy®" series, including two full storybooks, four activity books, and two early learning books. My mission is to help families develop healthy dental habits and make dental care a positive experience for kids.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is "My Friend Toothy®, Brushing and Flossing Charts." It was inspired by my desire to make dental care fun and engaging for children. I wanted to create a resource that not only educates kids about the importance of brushing and flossing but also motivates them to develop lifelong healthy habits. By incorporating interactive activities, colorful charts, jokes, and fun facts, I aimed to transform a typically mundane routine into an exciting and rewarding experience for both kids and their parents.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do have a few unusual writing habits! I often find inspiration strikes at the most unexpected times! I am most creative at night when the house is quiet and everyone is asleep. Additionally, I often read my drafts out loud to my children; their reactions and feedback are incredibly valuable in shaping the final stories. Sometimes, I even act out scenes with them to ensure the books are as engaging and fun as possible!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For starters, my creative consultant Stacey Gittens is amazing. She is such an incredible author and editor; I just love working with her. My rhyme and meter editors, Karla Clark and Karla Clark, are also amazing authors who truly helped shape the success of the My Friend Toothy brand. A fellow author who helped me with this whole author journey is Kim Ann and Yobe Qiu!

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a holiday series for My Friend Toothy. We're starting with Christmas, Easter, and Halloween! These special editions will bring the magic of dental hygiene into the festive spirit, making brushing and flossing fun all year round.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method for promoting my books has been leveraging social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Engaging directly with my audience through posts, stories, and ads has been incredibly effective. Additionally, my website, www.myfriendtoothy.com, serves as a central hub where readers can find all the latest updates, free resources, and purchase links. Collaborating with influencers and joining parenting and dental health groups online has also helped spread the word about My Friend Toothy.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes, I have a few pieces of advice for new authors! Firstly, stay true to your voice and vision. It’s important to write what you’re passionate about because that authenticity will resonate with your readers. Secondly, don’t be afraid to seek feedback and embrace revisions. Constructive criticism is invaluable for growth. Thirdly, be patient and persistent; success doesn’t happen overnight. And finally, build a supportive network. Connect with fellow authors, join writing groups, and engage with your audience. Remember, every step, no matter how small, is progress toward your goal. Keep writing and never give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I've ever received was from my husband during a challenging moment when I felt like giving up. He said, "When you feel like giving up, take a break." It reminded me of the importance of self-care and perseverance in pursuing my goals.

What are you reading now?
I'm currently immersed in Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear. It's a fantastic read for anyone interested in self-help and personal development, offering practical strategies to improve habits and achieve lasting change.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My dream is to get onto Dragons' Den (the Canadian version of Shark Tank) to promote my brand My Friend Toothy® and empower families worldwide to make brushing and flossing a fun experience! The box set includes not only the interactive book packed with activities and educational content but also a plush Toothy character and magical mirror clings. Together, they create a complete and engaging dental care experience that motivates children to embrace healthy habits with enthusiasm. I'm excited to continue expanding this vision and reaching more families with our innovative approach to children's oral health education.

What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book of all time is Believe It by Jamie Kern Lima. This book is incredibly inspiring as it chronicles Jamie's journey from a struggling entrepreneur to the founder of a billion-dollar beauty brand. Her story is a powerful testament to perseverance, self-belief, and the importance of staying true to one's vision despite numerous obstacles. "Believe It" not only offers valuable business insights but also deeply resonates on a personal level, encouraging readers to overcome self-doubt and pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.

Owen B Greenwald

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I'm a bay area native currently living in Santa Clara. I love cooking, ballroom dance, theatre, small dogs, and board games. I stay up far too late writing and exist in a perpetual state of tiredness. There's much more to say, but true to form, I'm writing this very late at night and will keep it short so I can go to bed.

I've written eight books – a six-book YA series, a play, and my newest, a space opera called Weapons of the Mind.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Weapons of the Mind.

I and my coauthor chose this title to represent how, despite the action-packed nature of the book, our protagonist Tala's most dangerous battles are internal. Inner conflict is a major theme of the book, and Tala's choices carry deadly consequences.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I try to write a little bit a day. And I do mean a little bit. Five sentences.

Of course, at five sentences a day, it would take forever to finish something. But committing to five gets me to the computer with the word doc opens and starts my fingers moving. Usually, by the time I hit five, I’m warmed up and ready to keep going.

Sometimes, my schedule is packed full of other responsibilities, social engagements, etc. On those occasions, maybe all I can do is squeeze in five sentences at the end of a long day. But all that means is that even on my busiest days, I make forward progress.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve always admired Terry Pratchet for his mastery of off-kilter humor to knock readers off balance, followed by truly compelling, resonant emotional writing. Pratchet never got bogged down in cliches unless it was to give them an original spin; he found the weirdest way to address mundane concepts and forced the reader to think about them from a new angle, but one that always made perfect sense. It was such a gift!

Brandon Sanderson has been a primary influence of mine since I first read Mistborn. His stories are like intricate machinery to me. Every cog is in place, doing its job, building to a purpose. There’s a reason “Sanderlanche” has gained niche use in fantasy discussions – his climaxes are the result of meticulous, book-long setup. Some of Sanderson’s best tricks are techniques I’ve shamelessly taken for myself (see if you can spot which ones I’m employing in Weapons of the Mind), but the most important thing I’ve taken from him is the importance of keeping a narrative internally consistent and carefully managing a reader’s expectations.

Scott Lynch and Joe Abercrombie are masters of the adage “any explosion is only as interesting as what’s being blown up.” If I ever need a reminder that action is best served sparingly, alongside action and stakes, I’m cracking open something by Lynch or Abercrombie.

What are you working on now?
At the moment of this interview, I’m hard at work laying the groundwork for making Weapons of the Mind a success. New writing has taken a backseat to that, unfortunately, although a sequel is very much in the works.

I'm also hoping to pull together a performance of my play Midsummer Night, an adaptation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Heavily discounting your book for a short period of time (or even making it available for free) will give you access to a bunch of services that advertise your deal to thousands (or tens, or hundreds of thousands) of active, voracious readers.

You probably already knew about this method if you're on this site, reading this interview, though! So I'll also say that in the age of social media and online marketing, authors are underestimating the value of a solid local community. Go to conventions, do readings at libraries, etc.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find your audience and write for them. Don’t waste time trying to write a book that everybody will like. There is no such thing as a book that everyone likes, but plenty of books have suffered from being pulled in too many different directions trying to appeal to different groups of people. If you find and resonate with your audience, they will always have your back.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
"Don't kiss me like that, kiss me like *this*."

As for writing advice… "Good writing exists in the gap between leading your reader and trusting them to lead themselves."

What are you reading now?
"The Fifth Elephant," by Terry Pratchet. Discworld is a modern classic!

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have some projects I’m trying to get publish-worthy: a few short stories, a novella set in the Weapons universe, and one very long fantasy epic that draws a lot of inspiration from stories of King Arthur while exploring a rough approximation of the current political landscape. It’s meant to be a look at how kingdoms fall, not through invasion or any external force, but by the efforts of bad actors, the friction of petty grievances, and the failures of a system beyond the power of any lone individual to change. Who can say if there’s a market for it? The most important thing is that it makes my fingers come alive at the keyboard.

What is your favorite book of all time?
It's so hard to pick just one. There are so many different reasons to love a book! Today, I'll say The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson. Sanderson crafts plots like a master watchmaker, fitting each cog into place and then letting it wind down on its own. The setting is original, memorable, and evocative in my imagination. Everything works in concert to deliver an experience I'll never forget.

Katelynn Butler

Katelynn Butler loading=Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Katelynn R. Butler has been reading and dreaming up her own stories since she was a child. She procured her first library card at eight and has continued to ransack her local libraries since, reading anything she could get her hands on. She has received a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Religious Studies and spends most of her days writing. Otherwise, she can be found baking, knitting, researching vintage and historical dress, or spoiling her two rescue cats. I am Become is her first novel. The sequel, From Embers and Ashes, will be published soon on Amazon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am Become was inspired by several different things. Mostly, my love of fantasy, but I also grew up reading the dystopian and utpoian themes in the Hunger Games and the Giver which have directly impacted my worldview. These types of stories, along with many others, inspired the idea for I am Become and its subsequent sequels.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have terrible writing posture. I call it goblin posture. It's something I need to work on for sure because it kills my shoulders!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sarah J. Maas, Ava Reid, Erin A. Craig, Elise Kova, Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, Leigh Bardugo, Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen King, Marissa Meyer, Stephanie Meyer, Hannah Whitten, Cormac McCarthy, V.E. Schwab, Naomi Novik, Samantha Shannon, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare

What are you working on now?
The sequel to I am Become, Embers and Ashes.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I've just dipped my toes into the marketing pool and am trying to figure everything out. I have concluded that websites such as Pretty-Hot.com are incredibly helpful to indie-hybrid authors such as myself.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. It may take a while for your story to hit the shelves (physically or online) but you can do it. If you believe in your story and work hard to hone your skills, you can publish it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The only way to fail is to never try.

What are you reading now?
I am reading Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare and listening to the Pine Deep Trilogy by Johnathan Maberry.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish my edits for Embers and Ashes and figure out my next marketing plan.

What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh gosh, this is a hard one. I have so many favorites! I love Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, which is the first book to come to mind. But I also enjoy the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas and the Emily Wilde Series by Heather Fawcett.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Ashville, Alabama, and I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Alabama Agricultural &Mechanical University (AAMU). I’m a retired Program Manager from the Department of Defense and I live in Georgia with my husband. We have no pets. I have written a three book series. titled ‘Who would have thought’.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
On February 21, 2024, I published ‘Why Now’, the third and last book in my series ‘Who would have thought’. The last book took about 6 months to write. Each book in the series can be read independently. ‘Why Now’ is a gripping tale of resilience, self-discovery, and the relentless pursuit of the truth about the main character Alphonso. The late Stuart Woods, a renowned best-selling author and my biggest author fan was the source of my inspiration for writing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Before I start writing, I come up with a story and research anything that is not entirely familiar to me in my story, even though it is fiction. I want the readers to feel and be a part of the story. I write a synopsis, and next, I put together the outline for the entire story, which becomes my chapters. I set aside at least three times a week for writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The late Stuart Woods, a renowned best-selling author and my biggest author fan was the source of my inspiration for writing.

What are you working on now?
I am writing a self help training book and course for writing a book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media is my best source mainly Instagram, Facebook, and my quarterly newsletter which you can subscribe to from my website which is: www.barbaramo08.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My motto: “Don’t let anyone set the tone for your day except you and God”.
