Skye McDonald

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m Skye, and I’m here to make you laugh, cry, & swoon! My romances are all about strong women learning to love themselves before they can claim their “Happily Ever After” partnership. (Spoiler: they always do!)

I currently have 11 books available, although I’ve written several more than that. Confession: I love making standalone series that create a rich world for you to dive into, no matter which book you begin with!

So, here are my books:
The Anti-Belle Series: Contemporary romances set in Nashville, TN. Office rivals, second chance, enemies to lovers, she’s the billionaire, single parent hidden identity… I bet I’ve written your favorite trope in this 6-book set!

The Connecticut Commodores: Hockey small-town romances. I am a huge hockey fan, and that shows in these books!

The Unlikely Pairings Series: Contemporary romances written as Sarah Skye. This trilogy was co-authored, and it is just so fun!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
SCORED ON is my new release. It’s book 2 in my hockey series, so hockey inspired it. But there’s more…

Ethan (the MMC) has a drinking problem. That was inspired by people in my life who have put down the bottle for good.

Stella (FMC) has always bowed to her parents’ decisions. When she falls for “bad” boy Ethan, she must make her own choices. The song “But Daddy I Love Him” definitely gave me some oomph when it came to writing several scenes!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I always have to have a beverage beside me. And I like listening to lyrical music, which many do not!

Oh, and I hold a dance party in my office when I finish a book!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Brenna Aubrey’s Gaming the System series was an early influence, as was Christina Lauren’s Beautiful series. I also love Jules Barnard and Bella Andre for the way they create worlds within their series.

What are you working on now?
I am deep in my hockey era. In the Crease, Commodores book 3, will be out in September. After that… well, that’s a secret for now. šŸ˜‰

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote my books on Facebook, my own website, and also by attending book events. Those are the places I have most success connecting to readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Just write. Then worry about the rest!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“In ten years’ time, will you regret it if you don’t publish your books?”

What are you reading now?
Blood Rogue by Linda Parisi

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am attending a lot of events this summer, so that is on deck. But my next project is a secret right now!

What is your favorite book of all time?
A Wrinkle in Time. (Bet you weren’t expecting that one!)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a teacher by profession, mother and grandmother by loving choice, and a secretary and gopher when needed. Having the goal of becoming a writer after retiring, I took a Writing course at Indiana University NW. I also took two correspondence courses from The Institute of Children’s Literature. My first published book was through Lighthouse Christian Publishing, A DOG AND A BOY. Later a YA book, THE HIDDEN TRUTH, was published by Soul Mate Publishing. I also have several self-published books listed on Amazon. Most are children’s books that I wrote with my grandchildren in mind.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A VISIT HOME begins with the story of two children that were ‘sold’ to a couple who were very abusive. I based this part of the story on events that actually happened in our small town.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can write even while my husband is watching his YouTube programs.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
William Kent Krueger, ORDINARY GRACE
Delia Owens, WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING

What are you working on now?
I’ve started a memoir about growing up in a small town in Indiana.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and Amazon Ads are great.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up if you have a great story to tell.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
God has a plan for each person; a plan for celebration, not judgment; a plan for joy, not sorrow; a plan for peace, not fear, if only we allow God to take over and quit resisting.

What are you reading now?
THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY

What’s next for you as a writer?
Promote, promote, promote.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My newly released poetry book is my first book I have ever written. Besides poetry, my other interests include music, baking, animals, kickboxing, and watching Friends and Grey’s Anatomy. My favorite book genres are poetry and thrillers.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest and first ever book is called “Stitching Myself Back Together.” I wrote it about my mental health struggles throughout my teenage years during a time in which poetry was an important and helpful part of my life. Many of Rupi Kaur’s works were inspirational factors to the writing of this book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not really, although I only ever write poetry on my phone, because I always have it with me (for the most part), and I can type almost as fast as I can think but I am much slower at writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Rupi Kaur was my biggest influence, specifically her books “Milk and Honey” and “The Sun and Her Flowers,” and also her journal “Healing Through Words.”

What are you working on now?
I am working on marketing

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like posting my poems on Tiktok and promoting my book in the caption and in my bio.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m not sure, because I am a new author.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve only written one book: It’s All in the Lyrics: My Journey to Becoming a Home Studio Musician.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
It’s All in the Lyrics: My Journey to Becoming a Home Studio Musician is my latest release. I wrote this book after attending a Garth Brooks concert in 2017. After his retirement, I left the country music scene for hard rock/heavy metal and wanted to trace that journey.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t believe so. I guess I’d have to have someone watch me to find them. I do despise Calibri as a font, though. It makes my soul burn with unmatched fury every time I see it. Is that weird?

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As a kid, I read Goosebumps and R.L. Stine’s works. I prefer to read music memoirs, leadership, process excellence, Enlightenment era thought, political theory, Christian living, and satire. I’m a big fan of John Maxwell, Simon Sinek, Stephen Colbert, and AJ Jacobs (his social experiment writing is hilarious).

What are you working on now?
It’s All in the Lyrics will probably be my last book. I plan to start recording music from my home studio. If I do publish anything else in the future, it’ll probably be poetry/creative writing compilations.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As an artist, book promotion is challenging for me. I don’t want to promote, I want to create, so I’m using platforms that have that expertise: Fiverr, KDP Select, Goodreads Giveaways, etc.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Create your art! Don’t let fear or doubt control your ability to craft. I had to write this book to learn artistic honesty, but now, I feel like it’s important for me to pursue my passion for music.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As an atypical author, I draw inspiration from musicians. I’ve received a lot of awesome life advice from several places, but the best artistic advice I’ve heard comes from three of my favorite vocalists:

– Garth Brooks’ The Change: ā€œIt’s not the world that I am changing. I do this so this world will know that it will not change me.ā€
– Ryan Clark in Demon Hunter’s The Tide Began to Rise: ā€œIf this is all the love my spirit can give there is not a reason left to live.ā€
– Jesse Hasek in 10 Years’ From Birth to Burial: ā€œFarewell welfare.ā€

These lyrics have taught me, not only how to create art, but also, how to live a good life.

What are you reading now?
I’ve been trekking through Lacey Sturm’s writings: The Reason was phenomenal! Ariel Bloomer’s Turn Your Pain to Art. Brian ā€œHeadā€ Welch’s Eyes Wide Open. I’m looking forward to Dave Grohl’s Storytellers next.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Music! I just moved for the military, so I’m going to build my home studio back up, then get back to work with the music creation process. I hope to see people on music platforms very soon!

What is your favorite book of all time?
Besides the Bible, I enjoy reading Enlightenment era philosophy. I feel like a weird answer would be best here, so I’m gonna say ā€œThere’s a Boy in the Girl’s Bathroomā€ by Louis Sachar. I reread it every few years, even as an adult. The formerly abandoned kid in me can’t help but drink from the nostalgia of relating to Bradley Chalkers. I read it through the lens of a parent these days. What can I do to make my own children feel a strong sense of belonging in turbulent times. This book helps me connect with them and remember what it was like being a child.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have two self-published books of poetry. I am working on a third, but once I reach about 40 pages, I’ll publish it. Sadly, I’m not inspired daily, so only add to the book as poems come to me.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Haunted Words. I noticed my second book was taking awhile and I had all these started stories that have been sitting there for years. Haunting me. I figure why not share the ghosts of stories that may never be.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wish I could say I did. I guess I don’t have a habit of writing, so there’s no unusual ones to have.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Edgar Allen Poe, but I think it was more after the fact that I attempt to write in the same sort of mood he conveys: Fascination at the darker edges of humanity.

What are you working on now?
It’s another group of poems. Keeping with the “aesthetic” of previous titles, I’m naming it Night Shadows. Because even in the darkness, there can be shadows of the past, present, and future.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m not great at promoting. As you can tell by the publish dates and when I finally decided to actively use these types of sites.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have a day job. Find a day job that doesn’t suck all your energy, but do have a day job. At least part time. Especially if you’re introverted like me and don’t plan to do any in-your-face promotion. With a day job, you might be able to hire a person to do that for you.

It would be nice to make money, but it’s extremely competitive. Don’t write for a living. Write because you have a desire to.

Have a day job that lets your write at least one day a week.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Ever heard: Snowball Method.

I tried the snowball method and it does work, but any time I ever try to follow a method in attempts to write a novel, it falls apart.

What are you reading now?
In Too Deep by Brandy L Rivers. I love the idea of Seattle, so was looking for books set there. I found one of her books and have been obsessed with her Others series.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Trying to write at least a complete short story. Maybe some flash fiction.

What is your favorite book of all time?
As cliche as it sounds, Pride and Prejudice. Genteel Sass FTW

Faye Hall

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Faye Hall is the author of fast-paced, suspense-filled, sensual, historical romance stories.

She takes her characters on a unique journey of scandal and seduction through the historically rural setting of Queensland, Australia.

Faye was born and raised in the sugarcane farming areas of North Queensland, Australia. She tries to incorporate the tales of local history, and the struggles and adventures of her own family, into each of her stories.

Faye lives in North Queensland with her husband and 5 of their 9 children.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Stolen Desires was actually inspired by my grandfathers life when he came to Australia – trying to leave one’s past behind and start anew across the oceans, only to have one’s past find you.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure it’s unusual but I write lots of notes and quotes, even little sections of dialogue. They don’t belong to any story as such, but I keep them and look back on them at least once a year until a story forms from them.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I take inspiration from so many places, from romance books written by Amanda Quick, to crime novels written by Agatha Christie.

What are you working on now?
I’m actually having a small break from committing to any writing projects whilst my mother is in hospital with terminal kidney failure, but I still try to jot down the odd note here and there. While I’ve been dealing with family matters, I’ve been going back over and re-reading some completed manuscripts and trying to do some basic edits.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to rely on my personal website and the publishers website quite heavily, but I also use Facebook and X quite a lot.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be prepared to fail and get up and keep trying.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
To write the stories you want to read, and a bad first draft is better than a blank page.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading several of my own manuscripts and trying to get them ready for publication.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not sure…I’ve recently released 2 books of poems and ditties I wrote when I was still at school, but I really want to get back to romance. Hopefully, once my family life settles a bit, I should be able to release the first book from my next series ‘Blemished’ – a collection of stories with heroes/heroines that have been physically scarred and are searching for love.

What is your favorite book of all time?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m 28 years old and His #1 Fan is my first book published, but I’ve been writing since I was around 7 years old. Book 2 is already in the works as well!

Other than writing I love video games (Mass Effect and Baldur’s Gate 3 are my favorites!) and crafting.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
His #1 Fan was born from my desire to see more short submissive men in my romance novels.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like a fresh document whenever I write. Keeps me from getting bogged down with details.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Jodi Picoult has definitely influenced me. (There is a scene in my book that only exists because of all the Picoult books I’ve read!) BB Easton, HD Carlton (The Queen of dark romance), these are just a few lol

What are you working on now?
Book 2 (another standalone), is an age gap romance that takes place in a small town. It’ll explore religious trauma and addiction.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
It takes a little bit of everything and a lot of hard work. TikTok, book newsletters, and reviewers are going to be your best friend.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Find your process. Read up on others’ and try them out. Eventually you’ll build your own Frankenstein’s monster that works for you! Try different outlines, try writing sprints, etc.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write what you want to read. I wanted more variety in characters, so I wrote that!

What are you reading now?
Keeping 13 by Chloe Walsh (5 star read)

What’s next for you as a writer?
Book 2!

What is your favorite book of all time?
White Fang and Call of the Wild by Jack London. I love the mirrored stories.

Bret Kissinger

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been fascinated with history since I was a boy, and at that young age, I recognized the power of storytelling. How it can be used to teach history by connecting to people with emotionally packed stories. I’ve written four books. My historical fiction novels are: “Forever Fleeting”; “Gone the Way of the Dodo Bird”; “The Winter Tiger & The War Eagle”. My novel, “The Final Edit” is a murder mystery.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is a historical fiction book set during World War II. It’s titled, “The Winter Tiger & The War Eagle.” I was inspired to right this after coming across an article about a female Soviet Sniper named Lyudmila Pavlichenko. She was one of the war’s greatest snipers. The idea of a female soldier isn’t widely known, but many women served in the Soviet Army and performed their duty with skill, bravery, and tenacity.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I create playlists that I visualize as my book’s soundtracks. Different movie themes that help me get in the mood for a scene I’m writing. I’m definitely a “pantser” in my writing style. I plan and outline to a certain degree, but I love the excitement of letting my characters tell me where the plot is going to go.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My biggest influences are actually movies. I grew up in the ’90’s, so it was a time of great historical dramas: Titanic, Braveheart, Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan. These films gave me a love of history and storytelling.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a historical fiction drama set during two time periods: The Holocaust in 1942 and 1963-64. I have done so much research into the Holocaust, but sadly a lot of research stops in 1945. The tribulations these people faced didn’t end in 1945. The trauma of the horrors they experienced lived with them for the rest of their lives.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use Amazon ads. This certainly isn’t a free method of promotion, but it does allow my books visibility on the world’s largest marketplace.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Many people say they want to write a book. If you’re serious, it should be a need to write a book. It’s a huge time commitment, so be sure you’re willing to put in the work. There will be doubters; ignore them. Believe in yourself.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Your outlook determines your outcome. Expect to have a bad day, you’ll find a reason to have a bad day. Expect to have a great day, and you’ll find reasons to have a great day.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Murder Road by Simone St. James. I’ve read several of her books, and they’re always a great ride.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m diligently working on my fifth novel. My goal is to continue to write and bring my books to a larger audience.

What is your favorite book of all time?
Harry Potter was so instrumental in making me a reader. I stood in lines for the next book. Stayed up late, got up early. I owe a lot to the Harry Potter series. It was the first time I remembered truly disappearing into a book.

Roxana Chitanu

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a Romanian children’s book author-illustrator based in Italy.
My favorite things during childhood were reading and drawing in her grandparents’ library and observing the world outside — from ants and pebbles to clouds and trees. Although I put drawing on hold for a while, I slowly came back to it in my late 20’s and realized I wanted to tell stories through picture books. I learned the art of picture book creation, visual storytelling and illustration from various online courses and platforms.
After the birth of my daughter, I became inspired to write as well. I have so far written one picture book, Inside, but have more in the works.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest picture book is called “Inside” and it makes learning the basics of mindfulness easy. This book’s idea was sparked by the birth of my daughter and the long moments spent holding, rocking, talking and singing her to sleep. I wanted to help her understand her inner world – her thoughts, feelings and memories and have better tools to deal with life’s challenges.

“Inside” Picture Book will help you offer a gentle introduction to mindfulness through simple words and vibrant pictures that will help children understand their inner world—the “inside” where thoughts, feelings, and memories come and go. But the self stays.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It might seem unusual that I wrote and edited this picture book many times over in my Notes app on my phone. It was the easiest way to write with a newborn in my arms.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Ann Whitford Paul’s picture books and guidance on how to write, so I can say that she is a big influence.

What are you working on now?
I am now working on promoting my picture book, “Inside”, and I will soon release a hardcover version of the book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I talk about my book with words and images on social media – Instagram, LinkedIn etc.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a first draft then edit, edit, edit x dozens of times.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Edit your book thoroughly and don’t get attached to an idea or details.

What are you reading now?
Foundation by Isaac Asimov

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write my next picture book, I have some ideas and early drafts.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Neverending Story, by Michael Ende
