Naomi Obasi

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello guys! I’m Naomi, a young author who is obsessed with watching cat videos, Asian drama, DIY, and learning new, Random, things. So far I have written three books, two of which I consider my ‘official books’.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Haima. It is the second book in The Artefact Series. It has a blend of Victorian themes, and the Igbo tribe of western Africa. I have always longed to see my culture written in a fantasy setting like any other fantasy novel, and so I created one to the best of my ability.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write better at night. Between the hours of 2-3am.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
This is very hard for me to say, because I have a long list of authors and books that inspire me. But if I’m to select one, I’d say Jennifer. L. Armentrout, the author of the Blood and Ash series. It was her books that made me go into writing romance fantasy.

What are you working on now?
I am working on another Romance fantasy story, and this time it’s a novel not a novella. It’s about fae-like creatures, magic, humans, elites and commoners, love, and of course, Vengeance. (Cue: proud nod)

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be honest, I do not know. Marketing isn’t really my strong forte. I just promote my books on as many sites as I can and hope for the best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Have fun while writing! Do not write just for the market, but write for yourselves also.

What are you reading now?
The familiar, by Leigh Bardugo

What is your favorite book of all time?
Rage of Angels, by Sydney Sheldon. This book made me realise that I might have masochistic tendencies. Because I have no idea why I keep reading it and recommending it to other people. Despite how it ends! (Oops. Spoiler!)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been a writer all my life. I currently have over 100 books published on Amazon. When not writing, I like to work in my garden and tend to my bees.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest cozy mystery novel is “Toys in the Attic: A Puppet Mystery (Miss Henry Art Cozy Mysteries Book 15).” I was inspired to write this book by a desire for money.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write using em dashes a great deal instead of commas. I particularly like to use em dashes for parenthetical asides. Other than that, I type like most others.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Beyond a doubt, the authors who influenced me most are Mary Stewart and Georgette Heyer.

What are you working on now?
Building a blog and mailing list — promotion.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My mailing list is my best method for promoting my books followed by social media (Facebook and Twitter).

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write a lot. You’ll keep getting better and won’t make much per book.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a journalist by day and a writer by night. I am happy to say after two years of waiting I finally published my first book!

What authors, or books have influenced you?

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m setting my sights on a documentary….stay tuned!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?

Neil Vickers

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Born in the late fifties, went to school in Derby England, mainly midstream education. It was a lack of concentration that made me lose my place at the top grammar school, the exams went disastrously wrong. It was never a good thing asking me to concentrate, my mind would always be somewhere else, thinking all the time about other things. Being at school was a secondary chore in place of a primary, although I was always marked good for turning in every day. I had little absences from school but juggled time between school and play. I was a bit arty and crafts at school was a subject I enjoyed, my teacher more or less begged me to go to art school as he said I was his best student in years but the lure of a city and guilds apprenticeship in plumbing and heating with wages outweighed the other of five years at art school with no incentive beyond that.
Nature was what I enjoyed when I was younger and all the books I read would have been linked to birds or animals. My early days would be spent walking in the countryside with my friends to see nature thriving around us. I still enjoy going out and getting as close to nature as I can.
I was busy after my apprenticeship finished whilst I tried to start my own business as a self-employed plumber installing central heating systems. I eventually moved into building work, a fairly natural progression into property and creating a portfolio of property rentals.
I started to write manuscripts on different subjects without publishing any of the unfinished work due to my workload that I had created, and time was not a luxury I could afford. I had not read novels as I was more interested in nature and I was fascinated by nature and its diversity. I would watch programs on animals, the ocean and its inhabitants, birds of all kinds from the biggest hawks and vultures down to the smallest hummingbirds. Reptiles were always something that I enjoyed reading about and the environments they lived in.
I spent the last thirty years building new houses and large care homes for the elderly and running the day-to-day administration of caring for the elderly residents. I started writing books again with a view to publishing them after the pandemic (Covid), it had given me a new lease of life to start writing again but this time not to just write a manuscript but to write it and publish it.
I seem to have been born with a gift of a creative mind and photographic memory, the books I write just seem to flow out my head as I am writing them. I seem to be able to write in any genre including fiction of course. I consider myself lucky as I have never read any fiction books. I find I do not affiliate my writing with any other author and do not mimic the style of any. I do my best to make a book exciting to read and entertaining for the reader.
I have two books currently in the worldwide market True Love Unlimited and True Love Unlimited The Conclusion. The latest book True Love Unlimited The Conclusion has won the gold prize for its genre Romance, Action, Thriller and I thank Chick Lit Café for giving me the first prize for my book.
I have just completed my new sci-fi book The Sixth Dimension Defined and will be published. We aim to release the new book for sale early July 2024.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My current book is at the publishers now, it is a Sci-Fi, the first one of a sextet and called The Sixth Dimension Defined. Space has always fascinated me and I always wanted to write a Sci-Fi and define what’s in space without having to visit it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No I don’t.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
All my experience with writing comes from within myself and I am not influenced by any other writing.

What are you working on now?
I am working on the next five books to complete the sextet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my own website www.neilvickers.co.uk as well as having my books on Goodreads and Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
To think about their novel fully before they start writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
I have not been given any advice on writing.

What are you reading now?
I am not reading anything at the moment.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am working on the next five books to complete the sextet.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I do not have one the books I have read were mostly at University.

Molly McCreight

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a debut published author, though writing has always been an interest of mine. When I was 8, I remember starting to write a mystery book based off one of the dreams I had. I can only imagine it will continue to be a habit as I experience more life.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The most recent book I’ve published has been “The Sun Became Shy”. It’s a book of poetry in which I didn’t set out to write for publication. During a rather disorienting time in my life where I left my faith I used poetry as a way to process and later felt as if it could be helpful to others going through the same thing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
A glass of wine always helps.

What are you working on now?
There are a few projects I have in mind, one of which being sharing poems that come out of my own therapy sessions. I find it refreshing when people show their vulnerabilities and figure why not share my own?

Andrew Masseurs

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My Name is Andrew Masseurs and I am from Wellington, New Zealand. I’m a crazy guy who loves to play sport, exercise, make music and write novels. I’ve got two dogs and two cats. A wife who I love dearly and four beautiful kids. I’ve written two books. A Day in the Life Novella and The Day After. They are an apocalyptic book series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is The Day After. Book Two in the A Day in the Life series. My inspiration for writing the series came from trying to read a novel on holiday that was a hard slog. So I started writing my own. I love most things apocalyptic so it has been a joy to write.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Only that I write the book in my head while I’m doing day to day things. Then when I’m ready I’ll attack a chapter. Ideas come thick and fast while I’m working, exercising or listening to audiobooks. I have to stop everything and write it down before I forget.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, George R R Martin, J K Rowling, Thomas Harris,Suzanne Collins. I loved to get whisked away into another world. The best books were the ones I couldn’t put down. There really is something special about keeping the reader guessing.

What are you working on now?
Third book in the series called Days of Fury. Also planning the rest of the series which is up to around nine books at the moment.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to use Facebook, Instagram and tik tok a lot. I’m trying anything and everything to get my books out there. Sale, sale, sale.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be yourself. There’s only one of you. Use it to your advantage. Read some marketing books. Make sure you love your novel. If you don’t love it no one else will. If it ain’t working, fix it. If it still ain’t working write something else. I’ve got two novels sitting unreleased because they had issues. The two books I have released, I love! Release something great and it will market itself. Make sure your cover kicks ass. My first cover was crap. I found someone who could create something brilliant. Now he’s doing all my covers. Couldn’t be happier.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself.

What are you reading now?
The Stand Stephen King. I read it twenty years ago. Trying to read it again.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Book Three, four, five, six, seven, eight and nine of the series.
Fun,fun,fun.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Shining by Stephen King. Best series, Harry Potter.

Daniel Kowalski

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
As a writer, my focus has mainly been on screenplays. I have had several screenplays optioned over the past couple of years but the WGA and SAG strikes last year delayed anything from going into production and now the industry is still on hold as they negotiate contracts with IATSE because there could be another strike this summer if no agreement is made.

I started writing novels as a way to share my stories with the public. My two novels ‘Suicide Bridge’ and ‘Family Feud’ both began as original screenplays that received favorable reviews but ultimately did not get produced. I do have more books that I am going to write this year and next from scripts I have written that are in my drawer.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called ‘Family Feud’. The original inspiration came from a news story about a woman who disappeared and appeared to be kidnapped. She mysteriously returned after two weeks and in the aftermath it turned out things were not as they seemed.

But the only thing that my novel has in common with real life is that the woman returned after being kidnapped. Everything that happens after is a fictional creation that I made before the truth of the real events were ever uncovered.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a morning writer so after my kids go to school I use the next couple of hours where there aren’t any distractions to write. I usually am able to focus and be pretty productive during that time.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Screenwriting in general has been a huge influence. But for authors of fiction novels I have to go with Michael Critchton, Michael Connelly, and Stephen King. I like writers who keep a fats pace and use every word economically.

What are you working on now?
I always have spec scripts I’m working on. For a novel, I am planning on doing another adaption this summer and hope to have it released by the fall.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and Amazon ads seems to work and so does Good Reads. I’m at a phase where I’m trying to create a portfolio of books to aggressively market instead of focusing on one. I’m also trying to get reviews and ratings for the books so that when people click on the page they can see the work has been well received.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be prolific instead of perfect. A lot of writers spend years on just one work trying to improve it. But behind every novel is a premise and sometimes that premise doesn’t click with a wide audience no matter how many times you try to improve it.

So have a few novels on the market and advertise them. Some will be more responsive to the audience than others. And if someone liked one of your books then they are going to click on your author profile to see what else you have done.

What are you reading now?
I’m about to start Starship Troopers. From what I have heard it is much different than the movie.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To keep writing every day.

What is your favorite book of all time?
Very hard to say. My book case is full of lots of genres from fiction and non-fiction.

Bob Price

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m passing into my twilight years and figured I’d witnessed and done enough to offer others some insights I’ve gained about what all of us are doing on Planet Earth. Most of my books possess a spiritual angle for that reason. However, I also write political satire, mostly because there are none more opaque than politicians. Finally, I also write Crime and Westerns because I enjoy both genres.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is titled Memory Loss which focuses on a criminal organisation that artificially wipes clean the memories of an investigative journalist.
The book was inspired by friends and family members who suffered with Alzheimer’s and Dementia and, the sort of impact the loss of memories has on everyone. To create a credible storyline I needed to tweak the depth of memory loss artificially created.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
What constitutes an unusual writing habit? I think I’ll be a bore here and say none that I can imagine which do not apply to others.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve gone through many phases over many decades reading naval war stories written by Alexander Kent, westerns by Elmore Leonard and Zane Grey. These all moulded me from an early age as did Mickey Spillane in regard crime detective stories. More recently Lee Child and the Jack reacher novels are entertaining while on the science fiction side I enjoy J.N. Chaney.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a story about an elderly guy disappointed by the way the world has changed in the UK by its government becoming more like a dictatorship than democracy. Yes, a type of 1984, but not quite because many things that have occurred since it was written by George Orwell were not envisaged.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon kindle

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep plugging away, it’s easier today to write your novel and get it published than it ever used to be. My first book ‘Main Bitch’ took me 10 years before a London publisher bought it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
When editing your work read it aloud to yourself and never rush it.

What are you reading now?
Extraction Protocol: the one U.G.L.Y. Marine Series Book 5 by John Pirhalla

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m also editor of a local classic car magazine titled ‘Still Motoring’ which keeps me busy as we slowly expand.

What is your favorite book of all time?
‘HMS Ulysses’ by Scottish author Alistair MacLean for its fabulous descriptions of rough seas and the inter-action between sailors at war.

Just start.
