Andrea Moore

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
2. Well one is available to read and purchase right now and the other I am editing.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Flowers From Holland. I wanted to write about a complex female who lets all her emotions dictate her behavior. Then explore how those actions clash with the outside world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like the process to happen organically. I start with an idea and see where it takes me once my fingers hit the keys.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I take inspiration from books as well as movies. I like great storytelling in all its forms. Sometimes when I just can’t get the words out, I’ll watch a movie for inspiration. I also always keep a book in my car. So when I waiting for my kids or in a waiting room, I always have something to read.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on another romance/thriller. I like to combine the two genres.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just keep writing and don’t give up!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully success!

What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book is The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I enjoyed it as a child but as an adult, going back to read it, gives it new meaning. I recommend it to all adults.

Chiara Benedetta Condorelli

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a freelance writer and translator specialized in English, Italian, French and German. When I’m not helping individuals and companies promote their products and services worldwide, I’m taking classes to learn other skills and applying for customer support/receptionist/shop assistant/other roles outside Italy (but still in Europe). I have written and self-published eight books, including one under a pen name.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Slán To Sláinte: A short story”. The inspiration came from a particularly hard time I was going through during my stay in Ireland, and it is the darkest novel I have ever written.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, I don’t have any unusual writing habits.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, Colleen McCullough, Michel Faber, Émile Zola.

What are you working on now?
I recently published my last book (under a pen name). I don’t plan to write any more books because I ran out of things that would fit into a book, but I won’t stop writing, so I decided that I would focus on short stories.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The book trailers I make and publish on YouTube. They’re the most fun way of advertising myself, in my opinion.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Make sure that what you publish is what you have written to the best of your abilities.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As of recent, “It’s not over until you win” by Les Brown. It’s something that can be applied to almost any situation.

What are you reading now?
“Money” by Émile Zola.

What’s next for you as a writer?
At the moment, I’m collecting material for a new short story, but I’m taking my time.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I don’t have one, unfortunately. But there are so many books in the world, and one day I will come across what I will consider as my favorite of all time.

Pat Spencer

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have a lifetime of experience publishing fiction and nonfiction. I have written a total of seven books. My historical fiction novel, Golden Boxty in the Frypan, inspired by my mother’s coming-of-age experiences during the 1930s, is published with Pen It Publications. My textbook is published by Milady/Cengage Learning. I indie-published A Baker’s Dozen For Writers: 13 Tips for Great Storytelling and Story of a Stolen Girl, an International thriller. My literary fiction trilogy, Sticks in a Bundle, is contracted for a three-book debut.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is A Baker’s Dozen For Writers: 13 Tips for Great Storytelling. My success in publishing craft articles inspired me to compile this small book of writing tips, presented in a light and humorous way, that will make a big difference when integrated into a story or book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My only unusual habit is to write my back cover blurb first. This helps me develop my character and book arcs and stay on track. Other than that, I just need a teapot and a few hours alone and I am happily banging away on my laptop.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Barbara Kingsolver has had the greatest influence on me. I explain further down.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am working on my second Irish historical fiction novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a website and post on FB, X, Instagram, and TikTok. I participate in signings, book fairs, and open mic readings. I do interviews such as this and attend a multitude of writers’ meetings. I have no idea what works best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write from your heart, but sign up for workshops, read online craft articles, and learn more by joining a writing critique group so that you can present what is in your heart the way it deserves to be presented.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Three things:

First, my dissertation advisor told me, “Write it as you would say it.”

Second, “Be careful whose advice you take.”

Third, “In ten years, you will look back and either you did it or you didn’t.”

What are you reading now?
I belong to two writing critique groups, so keeping up with their submissions takes up most of my reading time.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to finish my WIP, my second Irish novel, by the end of 2024.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. I love the way she masterfully shifted the POV from one character to the next and created unique strengths and weaknesses for each while integrating the culture of the Belgian Congo people and an American missionary family into the storyline.

Donna B. Comeaux

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in Texas but have lived in Oklahoma for over forty-five years. I’ve written short stories for a now-defunct magazine, wrote monthly devotionals, contributed to an anthology, and self-published the following novels—Self Ambition, Real Love, and Breathe for Me. I am a member of The Romance Writers of America, Inc.

I’ve been married for fifty years, am a mother of two, grandmother to ten, and great-grandmother to one.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Breathe for Me” is my latest book and the inspiration for this book came from Sandra Brown’s “Deadline.” The moment I read the diary of one of the characters, the idea for this book took off. The rest is history.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t have any unusual writing habits. Like most writers, I get up in the wee hours of the morning and work until 9:00 p.m. The one thing I do to prepare for publishing is run my novel through ProWritingAid, Grammarly, and WordRake one paragraph at a time. This process takes about two weeks, working from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Though this is very tedious and time-consuming, it yields a very polished end product.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The authors who have most influenced me are: Judith McNaught – though Judith hasn’t been heard from for over ten to fifteen years, her novel “Until You” still inspires me. I’m also a fan of Sandra Brown. But the most notable writers who inspire me are: C.J. Box, William Kent Krueger, and John Hart.

What are you working on now?
My present work-in-progress is a family saga which is set in Louisiana. It’s a rich tale about a fifty-year-old widow who, due to the recent death of her husband, is forced back “home” to claim land she doesn’t believe belongs to her. The city holds secrets and she’s cornered into reliving them through someone who holds the key to everyone she once hated, including her own mother.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To promote my books, I use Facebook.com, Allauthors.com, Bookbub.com, Goodreads.com, and my website: https://awriterfirst.wordpress.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to read in the genre they plan to write in. My second piece of advice is to invest money into good editing software such as ProWritingAid, Grammarly, and WorkRake. ProWritingAid is excellent at pointing out “passive voice,” a weakness of mine. ProWritingAid and Grammarly can sometimes cause glitches in your document if you enable both programs at the same time. Be sure to disable one while working with the other.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
SHOW don’t TELL: showing your readers what’s going on stirs their emotions and connects them to your characters. Readers don’t want a laundry list of events. They want their five senses and emotional state of mind twisted into knots. Accommodate them.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading several books: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith, King of Lies by John Hart, and Redemption Road by John Hart.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m actively pursuing a consult with my editor for my family saga I hope to publish in December 2024. I want to get the beginning of the book right because there’s a lot going on in the first chapter. I’m also finishing the outlines of two romantic suspense novels with detective-police and political elements. My hope is to complete these books and have one of them, if not both, published by 2026.

What is your favorite book of all time?
There are too many to name, but to narrow a few down, I would say my favorites are any of the books John Hart, William Kent Krueger, and C.J. Box write.

Tamara Green

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Two.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is volume one of my Life After Gluten (A.G.) cookbook series. This one tackles breakfast and dessert recipes. I was inspired by my tastebuds! Nine years ago, I went gluten-free on my doctor’s recommendation and very quickly knew the recipes I was finding weren’t going to cut it. If they didn’t satisfy me then others like me would benefit from tasty gluten-free recipes too, so I thought I better get writing!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I tend to write my recipes out on whatever is handy: the side of a cereal box, a receipt, etc.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Joy of Cooking is 100% my influence. In my mind Joy of Cooking defines cookbooks and so I strive to give the same quality of book, plus pictures, to the gluten-free world.

What are you working on now?
Volume two of the Life A.G. series which focuses on Breads & Meals.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have a bias toward newsprint, it works, and is the family business but all my promotion points to my blog and Instagram page where I keep in connection with the gluten-free community.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and seek all the feedback you can get!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Put your trust in Jesus.” Without His love for me, I would not have been able to complete this book.

What are you reading now?
The Pasta Codex

What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish editing and publishing Life After Gluten (A.G.) Vol. 2: Breads & Meals.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible 🙂

McCracken Poston Jr

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My full name is McCracken King Poston Jr. I live in Ringgold, Georgia, where I also work. I am a criminal defense lawyer licensed in Georgia and Tennessee. I will also go to other jurisdictions on a case-by-case basis.
My first book, “Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom” (Citadel, Hardcover, February 2024), is about a murder case in which I was the defense lawyer.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom” (Citadel, Hardcover, February 2024)
From Amazon:
“Was this small-town TV repair man “a harmless eccentric or a bizarre killer” (Atlanta Journal Constitution). For the first time, Alvin Ridley’s own defense attorney reveals the inside story of his case and trial in an extraordinary tale of friendship and an idealistic young attorney’s quest to clear his client’s name—and, in the process, rebuild his own life.

In October 1997, the town of Ringgold in northwest Georgia was shaken by reports of a murder in its midst. A dead woman was found in Alvin Ridley’s house—and even more shockingly, she was the wife no one knew he had.

McCracken Poston had been a state representative before he lost his bid for U.S. Congress and returned to his law career. Alvin Ridley was a local character who once sold and serviced Zenith televisions. Though reclusive and an outsider, the “Zenith Man,” as Poston knew him, hardly seemed capable of murder.

Alvin was a difficult client, storing evidence in a cockroach-infested suitcase, unwilling to reveal key facts to his defender. Gradually, Poston pieced together the full story behind Virginia and Alvin’s curious marriage and her cause of death—which was completely overlooked by law enforcement. Calling on medical experts, testimony from Alvin himself, and a wealth of surprising evidence gleaned from Alvin’s junk-strewn house, Poston presented a groundbreaking defense that allowed Alvin to return to his peculiar lifestyle, a free man.

Years after his trial, Alvin was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a revelation that sheds light on much of his lifelong personal battle—and shows how easily those who don’t fit societal norms can be castigated and misunderstood. Part true crime, part courtroom drama, and full of local color, Zenith Man is also the moving story of an unexpected friendship between two very different men that changed—and perhaps saved—the lives of both.”

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write best in coffee shops, and I used at least six in writing my first book.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
As I child I memorized most of Robert Frost’s poems. I loved H.G. Wells. I enjoy political books and historic nonfiction.

What are you working on now?
I’m just about to get my first book published, in a few days!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use them all, but have found surprising close contact with others in the very narrow categories in Reddit.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Talk to an experienced person and get a good agent.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t drink so much.

What are you reading now?
“Stealing the General” by Russell Bonds, and “The Wager” by David Grann.

What’s next for you as a writer?

Isaac Mashman

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I appreciate the opportunity to be interviewed today, and share more about my story and books! my name is Isaac Mashman, and I am a businessman, author, coffee addict, and a list of other things that mesh well with my main focuses. I’ve written one book, but I’m working on two new ones which I hopefully will share more about here in a couple of minutes.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book came out on November 1st of 2021 and is called Personal Branding: A Manifesto on Fame and Influence. The premise of it is quite simple, but the concept is quite complex. I discuss personal branding and dive into some of the psychology behind building a successful personal brand and the philosophical definition. My main business is a public relations firm, Mashman Ventures, and in my work I saw a lot of discussion surrounding personal branding, that, although was well intended, was misinformed. For example, the belief that your personal brand is created or deleted with a social media profile. The idea that personal branding is something new. In my book, I share why that isn’t true.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if this is unusual or common, but I almost always write in the evening time. There is something peaceful about sitting behind my computer or my cell phone and getting lost in my work. I’m sure plenty of other authors have similar habits, but it works for me.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I could talk all day about early 20th century, new thought materials, but there are some phenomenal books that have come out within the past several years that I have quite enjoyed the transparency of the author as well as the personable writing styles. For example, David Goggins’ Can’t Hurt Me is fantastic as well as Dan Bilzerian’s, The Setup which gives insights into a man that had only been perceived as controversial

What are you working on now?
I am at present, working on the second edition of my manifesto, which I’m excited to release later this year. The first edition at the time I thought was wonderful, and was an amazing accomplishment, but as soon as I published it, I felt like I could’ve added more. It clocks in at 55 pages and is a great introduction on the subject, but I have so much more to share

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Having your own website and newsletter is extremely important, but also having a well established social media presence is quintessential for longevity in 2024. This means you have a personal page where you can promote your book, talk to fans, produce content, etc. on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, etc. This helps build your image and craft an omnipresent personal brand.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I really have to reference the previous question. Build out your personal brand, and although being an author allows you to be introverted behind the keyboard, do not be afraid to be extroverted in front of a camera.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s funny because it was my senior quote, but John D. Rockefeller said, “Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.” This speaks to sacrifice and taking risks. there might come a time where you are content with something, but know deep down that you could do more. Lean into that feeling and execute.

What are you reading now?
One of the books I am reading is 1984 by George Orwell. It is scary how a book that was written nearly 100 years ago has so many comparisons and parallels to our present day.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After this year, I will likely take a hiatus from writing books. I’ll direct my bandwidth to producing articles on my personal website and niche blogs, but I don’t want to force myself into a corner where I have to produce a book every year or every two years.

What is your favorite book of all time?
This is difficult to pinpoint, but I will give you one. It is a short book, almost a parable, called As A Man Thinketh by James Allen. When I first got involved with entrepreneurship, my grandfather gifted me a copy of this book and I took it everywhere. When I traveled it was in my suitcase. there’s an analogy about how your mind is similar to a garden. If you plant evil thoughts, you’ll reap evil outcomes.
