Beverly Plaviak

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I never aspired to write a book (or any other written work). I’ve written two books. My deceased daughter asked me to write the first book as a memoir. I was reluctant at first, but upon it’s completely, I couldn’t wait to write the second book – so that I could share all the incredible information that had been divulged to me.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Beyond What We Can See: The Afterlife and What Awaits Us

As mentioned above, I was inspired to share all the amazing details about Heaven that has been communicated to me. My book includes a lot of fascinating information that I have never heard or read about anywhere.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I have any unusual writing habits. But I spend a lot of time transcribing recordings from communications with my daughter and father (from the other side). The writing takes a lot less time and is the easy part.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
At my age, I can’t recall which authors have influenced me, except Erma Bombeck and Jimmy Buffet. I haven’t read Buffet’s books, but I love his lyrics and music. (I probably need to read one of his books.) So, I think I have been inspired by a certain type of writer – someone who is honest, real, and has a sense of humor.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am writing informational pieces about “Death with Dignity” and which place I have chosen (and why). I’m also writing notes to my husband to help him navigate things when I’m gone, as well as letters to friends and family. As you might have guessed, I don’t expect to be around too much longer. It’s okay, though. I’m going home. And I’m excited.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I don’t have one yet. I’m in desperate need of discovering this in the near future, as I really want to share my findings with as many people as possible.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you know or have experienced. Even the best fiction is filled with tidbits of your personal life’s experiences, emotions, thoughts, and/or dreams.

Unfortunately, I can’t give advice on how to get your book out there. But I’m slowly coming to the conclusion that by offering free or discounted books, there’s a better chance that more readers will leave reviews. And reviews are needed.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself and be honest.
Try to see the humor in things.
Have compassion for others – no matter how different they are from you.

What are you reading now?
A book that a friend wrote: Night on the Water by Christopher Church

What’s next for you as a writer?
Mentioned above in “What are you working on now?”

What is your favorite book of all time?
The first book I read as a child: The Box Car Children. This is because my mind was finally opened to the entertainment books could offer. (My parents didn’t read to my siblings or me.)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been writing since I was a small boy. I gave my first “book” complete with illustrations to my father when I was seven. It was about astronauts. but it has not survived. I have been writing ever since. I have dabbled in poetry and even won the National Arts Club Award at Queens College (New York), but since then I have focused mostly on fiction. I have written eleven books that are published and available now. Short stories are what I write between books, and they are not easier but just less time consuming. When I am writing a book there is an enormous amount of time and effort actually writing the book; however, even more time consuming is the process after the first draft is done when I edit, revise, and proofread the book. I enjoy the whole process but the last part is not as enjoyable as the initial creation of the first draft.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is ‘Unicorn: A Love Story.’ I was inspired to write the initial short story that eventually became this book by an incident many years ago when I was away on vacation. I observed an unusual relationship at the resort where I was staying. At first I thought the couple were there with their teenage daughter; however, over the days there I saw the teenager interacting romantically with both the man and woman. I never spoke to them or saw them again, but I was inspired to write a short story. Many years later I would resurrect the story, changed it substantially, and it became the book that was published in December 2023.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if they are unusual, but I am a visual learner and need a storyboard. Basically I write out the names and descriptions of the characters, the plot that occurs in each chapter, major events (including times and locations), and ideas I have for the possible obstacles and dangers that await my protagonists. As I am writing, I can look up at the board for anything that I need without having to go back in the manuscript looking for information.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
William Shakespeare, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ray Bradbury, Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, Robert Olen Butler, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and too many more to mention.

What are you working on now?
Once again I am adapting a story into a novel. In the slightly distant future, a wealthy but lonely man falls in love with a female android whom he meets at a club. When she asks him to help her escape, the man tries to buy her to take her home with him. He completes the purchase, but while he is away from her the club accidentally comes to collect her, and a technician is killed. Now, she is on the run and wanted worldwide. He sets out to find her before it’s too late. It is called ‘La Muneca’ and is a work in progress.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
https://viclana.blogspot.com/

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write every day. Don’t let criticisms stop you from writing. Write, write, and write. Join a writer’s group, get reactions to your stories, and read other people’s stories. Read the classics, the canon if you will, and everything else you can read. Most of all, never give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Hemingway’s quote about writing: ‘There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.”

What are you reading now?
I’m reading ‘The Alchemist’ by Paul Coelho. I read it again every new year. It helps inspire me to keep writing and not go into shutdowns like I have done several times in my writing life.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Well, the big concern is working on the new novel. During that time I will take breaks to write articles and short stories and to continue to teach writing classes.

What is your favorite book of all time?
My collected works of William Shakespeare. My favorites are ‘Hamlet,’ ‘Othello,’ ‘Macbeth,’ and the sonnets.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have been a professional writer for several years and have published five books, the latest being the murder mystery thriller Off Season. It is the first in a series of Detective Ryan Mysteries. I am also a TV/Film writer, director, and producer and have worked for major broadcasters and studios on various successful drama and documentary projects worldwide. I have written and directed four feature films, one of which “Sons of Summer” is the most recent. It’s a surfing movie set on Australia’s Gold Coast and stars Temuera Morrison and Isabel Lucas. I currently spend my time between Florida and Sydney, Australia.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Off Season and is set in Sydney, Australia — a city I live in for part of the year. It’s a murder mystery, a genre I love. As a kid, I was a who-dunnit nerd and loved reading books about detectives like Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. It was these novels that years later, inspired me to create my very own star detective, Ramesh Ryan. Like me, he is a fish out of water in Australia— someone who works there but is never considered a true native of the country. In setting Detective Ryan loose, I wanted to create someone intelligent and determined, a genuinely likable character but one who is still trying to find his place in the world.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Like levitating upside down while I work? I like to write in libraries. There I am ignored and left alone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
At age eleven, I read ‘Planet of the Apes’. I thought: “Hey, wouldn’t it be cool to spend my life writing stories like this?” which was a pretty big moment. I’m a magpie, so no novel genre or novelist is out of bounds, and many different people stimulate my creative juices. I read the late Elmore Leonard for his superb dialogue; Arthur Conan Doyle for Sherlock Homes; Richard Osman for his new Thursday Murder Club series, which in some ways mirrors the tone and direction of my new book Off Season; Philip K. Dick for his sci-fi twists and turns, and insightful quotes like the so-true “Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn’t go away.”; and George Orwell for telling it how it is and will be.

What are you working on now?
I am writing the second book in the Detective Ryan Series, and doing it is wearing out my brain cells at a hideous rate.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have my website, clivefleurywriter.com, up and running to promote Off Season. In addition, I am mailing out to people who have been kind enough to review my previous books. My publisher, Coffeetown Press, is also involved in publicizing the book. In addition, I like giving interviews like this one and using TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc. They all work well. At the end of the day, though, word of mouth is the best way to get people to buy, read, and review books. And, for people who haven’t read my latest, Off Season, here’s a link (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/book/1144426420). Hopefully you’ll like the novel and give a good review.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
In Nike’s immortal words: “Just do it.”

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it……

What are you reading now?
The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. It’s very Agatha Christie like and about a beautiful old apartment block in Paris where nothing goes unseen, and everyone has a story to reveal.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Completing the second book in the Detective Ryan series.

What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s an impossible question to answer, so I always say it’s the one I’m reading now.

Tina Jordan

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Tina Jordan, and I love to write short stories, prose and poetry that, generally speaking, leans towards the paranormal or usually incorporates a struggle between love, life and death. I have published five books and have been featured in a few literary journals.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My newest release is Rumors of an Anomalous Heart, which captures two of my favorite tales, The Thomas Raeburn Chronicle, a story which dares love to rupture the the thin veil between life and death, and Jocelyn’s legacy, a vampire tale passed from mother to son. I have always believed that there is love, long after this earthly life has ended, and I use that belief as inspiration for my writing.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write a lot of poetry. That being said, the majority of my poetry reads like a story, so one might call it narrative. I do like to throw in bits of humor from time to time, but readers will find that most of my stories involve a hint of darkness, either in the form of grief and desperation or the paranormal.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I would have to say that my biggest influences have come from the classic writings of Mary Shelley, Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde and Jane Austen.

What are you working on now?
I’ve started a story that involves supernatural elements during the Prohibition Era. I think it will be a fun read once it’s done.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
You can find my Amazon author page at https://bit.ly/4aSJdri
and my website at https://thetinajordan.com/

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write for the joy of writing. There are thousands of authors hoping to make an impact, and you never know…you might just be one who does!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stay true to your heart. Plain and simple.

What are you reading now?
I’m actually revisiting a classic, The House of the Seven Gables by Nathaniel Hawthorne.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll keep writing when I’m not at my day job, and hoping that my work will stir someone’s soul.

What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s a tough question, but I’ll say my favorite is Jane Eyre.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a first time author! Growing up, I traveled around the country because my father was a pastor. We ended up in Cape Girardeau, MO were I ended up graduating high school. A fun fact is Cape Girardeau is the only inland Cape in America.
I graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia with dual degrees in Philosophy and Economics and lived in Columbia every since.
A fun fact about me is that after college I repoed vacuums as a job for a year and a half. These days I read, write and hang out with my dog Dragon, a 23 pound terrier.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Fury: A Cinderella Story. Its inspired by my love for the horror genre.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
There is a food court that I always have to go to to do my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Carrie by Stephen King is a big influence.

What are you working on now?
Two novels I hope to release in 2025.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Study and get an ARC team together!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?

Sasha Gray

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Privyet! I moved from Russia to the U.S. States and love it here so much while pursuing my writing dream. I’ve written lots of books so far, though mostly erotica, and have published over 20 of them, but I have a whole lot more to come. My Stepmom Stepson Affairs series is doing great and I hope that my new Teen Detective series will also be enjoyed by lots of people.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is book 1 in my new Teen Detectives: caught and punished, teenage detective series. I had the idea in my head many years ago ever since I first watched the Scooby Doo cartoon show and though what an interesting twist it would be to focus on a snoopy girl detective while making the stories erotica. So that’s what I decided to finally do!

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m a total night person, and I always drink green chai while writing at night. But I also have lots of pets to take care of during the day so I take two 3-hour naps a day instead of sleeping for 8 hours straight.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many to name . . . Tolstoy, and Chekov. Louisa May Alcott. I also really love anything Stephen King. My latest favorite genre is fantasy: Andre Norton. Piers Anthony. Adron Smitley. I read some erotica here and there but not much even though I mainly write it.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m concentrating on writing my Teen Detective series because it’s brand new, while switching back and forth writing stories for my Stepmom Stepson Affairs series and another new Stepdad Stepdaughter series that is in the works. I dabble in fantasy and horror and sci fi too but am not very good at them yet.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I dislike using social media like Twitter and Facebook and stuff so other than my personal author website, I use Vinny’s fantastic Awesomegang.com promotions as well all of its affiliates like Pretty-Hot.com. They have always been wonderful to me and I highly recommend them to all of my writer friends.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read as much as you can every single day. The more you read, the better you write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Losers focus on winners, winners focus on winning.” It means don’t get jealous of other writers’ success, instead use it to inspire your own!

What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading Adron Smitley’s Soothsayer fantasy series. So good! Also, his teaching books on how to plot and write better (like Stomping Kittens) have been such a tremendous help improving my own writing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not sure, but I do know it involves erotica, haha! I love writing it so much. Right now I’m concentrating on expanding my Teen Detective series and then after that I will go back and forth adding more new stories to all of my erotica series.

What is your favorite book of all time?
I would have to say books, plural. The Little House on the Prairie books are so wonderful and will always be my favorite. They are what inspired me to eventually move to America!

Heather Graham’s romances. Her Florida Civil War Series was great. I read all six of those. I had the pleasure of meeting Heather when she spoke at my Florida Romance Writers meeting.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have over 30 books written, but 12 published so far.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Safe & Alive, Book One will be out in March. I got to thinking, what issues would a woman have in an apocalyptic world? How would women handle these situations, and the series was born.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. I don’t do anything weird. I listen to music while I write, however.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Every single book I read leaves something with me. However, I do not have any single book that noticeably stands out.

What are you working on now?
I’m always working on something. I finished a medieval fantasy series for a project. I still need to finish my new series, book 6 & 7. I ghostwrite and have another project. I’m constantly working on something or editing.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promoting seems to be a never-ending job. I use social media, of course. I have not tried ads, although I’m looking into it. And I have my website: https://writeonproofandedit.com.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write On! Just start somewhere. Don’t worry about getting the right hook, perfect scenes, or chapters. Write it how you think it, and write it how you say it. The time to fix your story is once you’ve finished. As new writers, you might not know all the ‘rules’ to writing and this is okay. Get your story out so you have something to edit.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You cannot edit a blank page.

What are you reading now?
Currently, I am not reading since I’m in the editing phase of my release for March.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I constantly write. I always have a project going. And I’m working on two series right now.

What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh, I can’t pick only one. Unfair question!

Christiane Legault

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I work full time and have three young children and live in a small town in Canada called Sturgeon Falls. Northern Ontario is a corner of the world that means a lot to me which is why I decided to use it as the setting for my novel. Writing is something that I am deeply passionate about. It makes me feel connected to myself and the world in a unique way. For me, writing is the fun part. I’m still learning about how to reach readers and connect with them. Although it’s a bit scary, I’m really looking forward to this next step in my journey.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My debut novel is called Who Is Bobbie-Mae?. The idea first came to me when I was in my twenties. I had just been through a break-up and was feeling kind of lost. I started thinking about my past relationships, the different places I have lived and the people I had met and started wondering, what if I forget the things that have happened to me, would it change who I am? Later on, when my grandfather was diagnosed with Alzeihmers, I started questioning even more the relationship between our soul and our memories and the relationship between the two.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I almost always write at night when the house is quiet and I have time to reflect. What helps me the most is listening to a lot music before and during my writing sessions. I like music that is emotionally moving. Some songs I listen to on repeat if I feel they are particularly inspiring for a specific scene or the emotions my characters are feeling. The other thing that has really helped is thinking about my characters and what going to happen next in my story, even if I don’t have time to write that day. I also like to write random ideas on my phone or in a notebook as they come to me. My notebook is a big mess of ideas!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favourite authors are Margaret Atwood, John Irving and Paulo Coelho but I’m always on the lookout for new authors. For me, reading and writing, like music, is all about emotional connection – to yourself and to others.

What are you working on now?
At the moment, I’m mostly focussing on learning how to promote my novel and engage with readers and other authors in a way that feels authentic to me. I plan a starting to write again soon. I always have multiple ideas on the go. I just have to chose which one to focus on next.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That’s a tough question for me to answer because I’m still learning and trying things out to see what will work the best.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice would simply be to write. Carve a bit of time every day to do it and make it fun. Don’t over think it. Enjoy it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A year ago, I read somewhere that if you want to write a novel, you have to treat it like a part time job. You have to work on it regularly. That advice really helped me complete my novel.

What are you reading now?
I am reading a book of short stories by Margaret Atwood. I’m trying to decide if my next book will be a novel or a collection or short stories.

What is your favorite book of all time?
The book that has influenced me the most would be The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I have read it many times and have even gotten my children to read it. It’s the book I read when I feel disconnected or that I’m falling off course.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Witch’s War is my latest book that comes out in April. It is the second book in my fantasy series, Rise of Witches. The whole series has been living in my head for several years, inspired in part by the imaginative play and magical battles I would have with my brothers when we were kids.

What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m working on a western paranormal romance where four witches must work together to stop the demons from coming into our world. It’s set in the 1800’s with cowboys and horses.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Social media is my friend when it comes to promoting my books. I’ve had good results with Tik Tok.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best advice I can give to new authors is to get yourself out there and talk about your book as often as you can. It’s never too early to start promoting.

What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros! I loved fourth wing and am so excited that I finally got to start reading Iron Flame. I’m only a few chapters in but so far, I’m loving it.
