A magical artifact. A princess from another time. And a flawed soldier on the hunt for his destiny.

The year is 2016, and veteran James “Mack” MacNaughton struggles with a life-threatening medical condition and the ghosts of war. But when he crosses paths with Toey – a beautiful Cherokee Native woman with an enigmatic heart-shaped ruby – he’s plunged into a life-changing mystery that could rewrite history.

After Toey disappears deep in the mountains of North Carolina, Mack stumbles upon a shocking secret: Toey is a princess from the 1700s, and her ruby is an ancient Viking treasure with a supernatural power… and an origin that challenges everything we know about our past.

Her treasure is the only thing that can cure his illness. But Mack isn’t the only one who wants it. Caught up in an international manhunt that paints a target on his back, Mack must go toe-to-toe with Mother Nature’s elements, bloodthirsty mountain outlaws, and the mistakes of his past to locate Toey and unravel the mystery of her ruby.

Can Mack fulfill his destiny and find the woman he loves? Or will he be swallowed up and lost to the sands of time?

Canky’s Trade

About Canky’s Trade

Follow the bodysnatchers in their ghastly business!

`Canky`s Trade` is set in the south Lancashire township of Middleton in 1811. Lord Byron, pursuing a legal entitlement which he had in nearby Rochdale, stayed at Hopwood Hall, close to Middleton in September of 1811, and the novel deals partly with Byron`s impact on the people he meets there. 1811 was also a year when the infamous Luddites were at large, and whose  destructive resistance to new machinery prompted the Frame-breaking Bill, which Byron was to oppose in the House of Lords. And it was in the middle of the period when Oliver Canky, sexton of the parish churchyard, plied his `trade`. Throw in a young local weaver and poet, Sam Bamford, a murdered prostitute and some strange goings on in the cellar of the isolated house of Canky`s friend, `Owd Scrat`, and there you have the basic ingredients of the story…
