Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m in my early fifties and started writing as a teenager, so I’ve written many books (mostly YA and fantasy) and even more short stories. I got a few of the short stories published in magazines, but never any of the books until I decided to switch to self-publishing last year.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
After getting frustrated with the many books I had attempted to write and publish before, I decided to do something completely different last year. I started a series of kinky MM romance novels in a reverse harem setting, called “Serving Veronica”. I published book 1 “Assessment” last November and book 2 “Induction” will come out on Valentine’s Day.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not that unusual, I guess. I always have playlists for every project of a certain length. 25 min playlists and 1 hour playlists, mostly, because those are the work intervals that work best for me. So I use these playlists instead of a pomodoro timer.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Too many to list them all. Neil Gaiman was a huge influence on my writing. In more recent times Leigh Bardugo and Tiffany Reisz.
What are you working on now?
I’m still doing final touches on “Induction” (book 2 in the series), but I’m also already deep into drafting book 3.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m terrible at promoting myself. Seriously. Terrible. The only thing I do regularly is to tweet and also I post a lot in forums and Facebook groups.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read a lot. Write a lot. Write what you love. Don’t worry too much about publishing in the beginning. Take your time to grow as a writer. Maybe publish in fan fiction forums or other online platforms first. Don’t try to run before you can walk.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
You can edit anything but a blank page. So get the damn thing written first.
What are you reading now?
“Abandoned” by Chani Lynn Feener.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Complete the Serving Veronica series. Also, I have a YA manuscript that I might want to revisit and query to agents, once I’m done with it. I still haven’t given up on the idea of traditional publishing completely.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Lord of the Rings.
