Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I only recently began publishing. After I retired a few years ago, I began crafting. However, last year I finally had to admit that I no longer has the fine motor control necessary to craft. However, I could still use a computer and a mouse. Eventually, I discovered KDP and self publishing, and in June 2024 I published my first adult coloring book. Since then I’ve published over 125 books: adult coloring, word search, journals, scrapbook patterns books, as well as about five non-fiction and two fiction novels. I’m currently working on the 3rd book in the fiction triology.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Ark, the second book in the Days of Noah trilogy it was inspired by a dream I had many years ago (maybe 40 years), where I woke up one morning and everyone had disappeared, including my police officer husband. That dream combined with imagination and my understanding of Biblical prophecy, and a couple of decades as a prepper, led to The Gathering.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do it when I feel like it, so I don’t think there’s anything unusual about that.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been an avid reader since I was a pre-teen. To narrow influence down to one particular author would be difficult. I can tell you that I went through a phase where I read all the Louis L’Amour books. Then about a decade or so ago, I read everything I could by Jerry D. Young. Both of those authors wrote engaging stories with a hint of romance. That is what I’ve tried to do.
What are you working on now?
Currently I’m working on the third book in the Days of Noah Triology. I’m struggling to focus, as I seem to be spending more time promoting the first two books, as well as moderating a couple of Facebook author groups, than writing. I’ve given myself until the 1st of March (my birthday) to get the 3rd book published. Then I have a totally new book that I’m super excited about, but I refuse to start it until the last one is done.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook has been it, pretty much. Being on a limited income, I don’t have the funds to pay for promotion, and being retired, and having working in the tech (website building, graphic design, video creation) world, I can do pretty much everything all by myself
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start. You won’t know if you can do it, until you try. I used to write stories when I was in high school and dreamed of being a writer. Why didn’t I do it years ago? Life. Don’t let life rob you of your dreams.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just do it.
What are you reading now?
Some paranormal fantasy on Kindle. I usually read a book a day, but I’ve been so caught up in promoting my current books, that I’ve not taken the time to read in a couple of days. I need to get back to it, because I think reading really does help the creative juices.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve got a couple more Christian Romance books in mind, but I’m not gonna tell you! Haha!
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible, after that, I’ve read too many to have a favorite. A few I’ve re-read, books like Emergence, Down to a Sunless Sea, and Alas Babylon, as well as all the Louis L’Amour books.
