Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Like many others, I spent 30 years reading and finally decided to write my own story.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
After publishing several short stories, I have finally completed my first novel. My inspiration comes from authors such as Tolkien, Feist, Eddings and CS Lewis, among many others.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I enjoy creating the plot and writing rough drafts for each chapter quickly. After completing the rough drafts, I take a break for at least a week and come back to it with a fresh perspective. If the rough drafts do not resonate with me, I rework them until I am satisfied. I do not spend too much time on each individual chapter, but rather focus on the story as a whole first.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I read The Hobbit when I was seven, a long time ago. I followed that with The Lord Of The Rings over an entire summer when I was eleven. I fell in love with the fantasy genre and never looked back. One of my favorite memories was reading Feist’s Magician when I was thirteen, in the back of a combo van on a nine-hour car trip. Good times.
What are you working on now?
Book two in the series has a working title of Shar’Adan, which is short for ‘Shard of Adanna’. What is a shard? Read book one!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well this website of course! Some other good ones are allauthors, facebook and if you have the money – bookbub.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write because you love it. Since finishing my first book, I have become obsessed with getting my story out there. I had to close down social media for days to clear my head and get back to writing book two. The marketing is essential, but the writing is what should drive you.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never doubt yourself.
What are you reading now?
Little at the moment. Between full-time work and writing in every spare moment, I need to make more time to read. I will get back into it once book two is published.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I have the first four books plotted out for my series. I will be focusing on that for now. I am hoping to finish the series in five books.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Ooohh, hard question. It would be a tie between Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Feist’s Magician, and Frank Herbert’s Dune.
