Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, I’m D—a writer, gardener, professional overthinker, and lifelong fan of slow-burn romance with big emotional payoffs. I’ve written a multicultural romance that once took me on a book tour, and now I’m back at it again with stories that blend heart, heat, and heritage. I like characters who make questionable decisions and readers who root for them anyway. Currently working on new projects that include cowboys, privateers, and more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Allied Hearts is my latest release, and it was inspired by those sweeping, emotional love stories that make your chest ache in the best way. It’s about second chances, healing, and what happens when two broken people become each other’s safe place. Also, there’s a ranch. And tension. Lots of delicious, toe-curling tension.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I sometimes write dialogue out loud in the shower like I’m auditioning for a period drama. If you hear a woman passionately arguing with herself about a love confession, don’t worry—it’s just me editing Chapter 12. I also reward myself with snacks for every 500 words like I’m a toddler bribing herself.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Johanna Lindsey taught me that romance should be felt in your bones. Beverly Jenkins showed me that history and love can hold hands. And Nora Roberts made me realize that a slow burn is always worth the wait. I also take notes from TV—Damnation, NCIS: New Orleans, and The Bear are my current obsessions.
What are you working on now?
Oh boy—how much time do you have? I’m working on a romance set in 1705 featuring a Scottish privateer and an island woman who wants nothing to do with him (until she does). I’m also playing in the world of Texas cowboys and knights.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m just starting to build out my promo game, but I love connecting with readers through TikToks, Facebook good old-fashioned newsletters, and sites like this that help indie authors get their books in front of more hearts (and eyeballs). I believe word of mouth and community are still magic.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what keeps you up at night. Write the scenes you daydream about when you’re supposed to be cleaning. And don’t let perfectionism steal the joy of storytelling. Also, back up your files. Seriously. Do it now.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Done is better than perfect.” A half-written book in your drafts won’t touch anyone’s heart. A finished one—even if it’s a little messy—just might.
What are you reading now?
It, by Stephen King.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m building a brand, connecting with readers, and telling stories that linger long after the last page. Expect more epic love stories with real stakes, emotional tension, and characters you’ll want to yell at (and root for).
What is your favorite book of all time?
Once and Always by Judith McNaught. Then It by Stephen King a close second.
