Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Dagmara Schulte, a children’s author passionate about creating imaginative and meaningful stories that spark curiosity and joy. As a mother of three, I draw inspiration from the everyday wonders and challenges of childhood, weaving them into tales that entertain, educate, and inspire. I’ve written three books so far: From Clutter to Clean, Miranda the Hungry Panda, and Dash the Distracted Spider. Each story is crafted to engage young readers while delivering heartwarming lessons and relatable themes.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Dash the Distracted Spider. The story was inspired by the beauty of curiosity and the challenges of learning to focus, especially for children who see the world through a lens of wonder and excitement. As a parent, I wanted to create a character that kids can relate to, particularly those who might struggle with staying on task or managing distractions. Dash’s journey is a celebration of perseverance, imagination, and finding strength in small steps, reminding us all that every adventure has its own unique path.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I do have a few unusual writing habits! I often find inspiration in the small, quiet moments of everyday life—like watching my kids play or even brewing a batch of beer. Ideas tend to strike when I’m doing something completely unrelated to writing, so I always keep a notebook or my phone handy to jot them down. I also love crafting my stories aloud, testing the rhythm and flow as if I’m reading to an audience, which helps bring the words to life before they even hit the page.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’ve been deeply influenced by authors who create immersive worlds and memorable characters. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series sparked my love for rich, imaginative storytelling, while Julia Donaldson’s The Gruffalo and other works have inspired me with her clever rhymes, engaging plots, and ability to connect with young readers. These authors remind me of the magic in storytelling and the importance of creating experiences that stay with readers long after the final page.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a magical story about a curious unicorn named Luna who finds herself in unexpected trouble during one of her adventures. Along the way, Luna encounters a mysterious challenge that tests her courage and determination, teaching her valuable lessons about friendship and trust. Packed with surprises and a touch of whimsy, this tale promises an enchanting journey that readers will love discovering page by page.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promoting my books, I find a combination of platforms and methods works best. Websites like AwesomeGang.com, BookZio.com, and It’sWriteNow.com are fantastic for reaching readers who are eager to discover new books. I also leverage social media to connect with my audience by sharing behind-the-scenes insights, illustrations, and updates about my writing journey.
Additionally, engaging with parenting groups, book blogs, and local communities helps me reach readers who resonate with my stories. Building genuine connections and combining these strategies has been key to growing my readership and sharing my books with the world.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice for new authors is simple: don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. Be bold, be creative, and most importantly, add your unique perspective to your work. Your voice matters, and you’d be surprised how much others can relate to or find value in your ideas. Writing is as much about connecting with others as it is about expressing yourself, so trust in your creativity and let your passion guide you. Every story has its audience, and yours is waiting to discover yours!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve ever heard is to “write the story only you can tell.” It’s a reminder that our unique experiences, perspectives, and creativity are what make our work stand out. Rather than trying to imitate others, it’s about trusting your voice and embracing what makes your storytelling special. This advice encourages authenticity and reminds me that the world needs diverse stories—and that there’s always someone out there who will connect with mine.
What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m reading a mix of genres to keep my creativity flowing. On the children’s literature side, I’m revisiting some of Julia Donaldson’s classics to study her storytelling magic. For personal growth, I’m exploring a nonfiction book about creativity and focus, which ties into the themes I love weaving into my own stories. I find that reading across genres not only inspires my writing but also keeps my imagination alive and thriving.
What’s next for you as a writer?
As a writer, my next goal is to continue building a name for myself in the world of children’s literature. I want to create stories that not only resonate with young readers but also establish a sense of trust with parents and educators who value meaningful, engaging books. Commercial success is certainly part of the plan, as it would allow me to reach a wider audience and bring more of my ideas to life.
I’m focused on crafting more stories that inspire and entertain, while also exploring creative ways to connect with readers—whether through author events, interactive content, or collaborations. Ultimately, I’m excited to grow as a writer and make a lasting impact with my work.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book of all time is Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling. It’s the book that first transported me into a world so vivid and magical that I felt like I was right there at Hogwarts. The story’s themes of friendship, bravery, and discovery resonate deeply with me, and it’s one I can read over and over, always finding something new to admire. It’s a timeless reminder of the power of imagination and the joy of storytelling.
