Agella stepped forward, her gaze locking onto Elias’s. “How do you expect the kids and the elderly to outrun these things? If you’re their leader, you should be protecting them, not herding them to their doom.”
Rex’s voice softened, tinged with regret. “You’re responsible for these people. Don’t let them suffer the way I’ve seen others suffer because no one stood to protect them.”
Elias hesitated, the weight of their words apparent, but then he shook his head, he said with a firm voice. “We don’t have time for this. Just get to the safe zone.” He spun around and sprinted toward Mira and Connor, shouting over the clamour. “Get them to safety, now!”
Agella turned to Rex, her expression resolute. “What do we do, Rex? We can’t let those monsters tear families apart. No parent should lose their child like this.”
Before Rex could respond, the first Vorrak leapt toward them. Rex reacted instantly, shoving Agella out of the creature’s path as its massive claws raked the air where she had just stood. The sound of the Vorrak landing echoed through the settlement, drawing terrified screams from the settlers.
The Vorrak’s glowing red eyes scanned the panicked crowd, and its grotesque body twisted as it charged toward them. One man, paralyzed with fear, stood rooted in place, unable to move even as the creature closed in.
With horrifying speed, the Vorrak’s monstrous jaws clamped down, tearing into the man with brutal precision. Flesh and bone were ripped apart in a sickening display of carnage, and the man’s agonized scream was cut short.
The settlers continued to scream as they ran, but the Vorrak paid them no attention, discarding the bloodied skeleton of its previous victim. Its glowing red eyes focused on its next target. Rex stood frozen for a moment, shocked by the creature’s brutal efficiency.
