Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a neonatal nurse practitioner and avid traveler. I fell in love with the Hawaiian Islands and want to share that beauty with the world. I have written 7 books so far. 4 are travel guides.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Big Island Travel and Adventure Guide. Before I started this series, I had my 50th birthday cruise around the Hawaiian islands cancelled by a certain virus, but my trip to Oahu was still on. I spent hours upon hours researching everything there is to know about the island, the adventures I can have and all the logistics surrounding those. I realized not everyone has the desire or time to dedicate to travel planning, and my travel adventure guides were born.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have a writing companion; he is a 3-year-old Dachshund named Franklyn. He is a dapple, and so nosey he demands to sit on my lap while I write.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am actually an avid cozy mystery buff. My favorite author is Jana DeLeon; she writes about a burned spy who moves to Louisiana and meets two older ladies who did awesome stuff during the war. Their friendship is fun, and the pages just turn themselves.
What are you working on now?
Right now I am writing my first cruising and adventure guide to Hawaii; next up is Alaska.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I promote on my website, www.oceanbreezeadventures.net, all the social media, and I use written word media to spread the word.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t get so far inside your head that you don’t finish your book. Your story deserves to be told.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stick to what you know best and be real.
What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading The Diner by a newer author, Richard Van Wyk. Its a
What’s next for you as a writer?
I am heading to Arizona in February. I have won an award for my Maui Travel and Adventure Guide by the International Impact Book Awards. I am so excited!
What is your favorite book of all time?
The nerd in me says Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, but then my muggle self says The Sorcerers Stone.
