Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live with my husband in South Carolina. I have two grown children, a daughter and son. I have written four books, the last releases on 1/9/24. The first three are romantic suspense books, but I have switched to contemporary now. I want to keep things light and not be in a villain’s head anymore. LOL. I spend my spare time volunteering at a rescue farm for large-breed dogs and I also volunteer for a national no-kill shelter organization. I love animals and there is a dog in each of my books!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Rock Bottom Romance. There is a beautiful park on an island here in South Carolina where hubby and I bike and hike. I thought it would be the perfect setting for a fish-out-of-water story. A spoiled celebrity is the star of a camping reality show. The setting is based on this park. There are campgrounds, villas, boat slips and a general store. I had so much fun writing the book!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wish I could say I did, but not really. I can’t listen to music when I write or the lyrics mess me up. LOL. I do get distracted at times because we live on the lake and my view is of the water. Sometimes people fish within inches of our dock and I have been known to watch them. That slows my writing down.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Nora Roberts, Jill Shalvis, Laura Ingalls Wilder (Going way back here.) Growing up I read Little Women so many times I lost count. I also read all the Nancy Drew books. I remember being so excited when a new one came out. I’m also a fan of Catherine Coulter and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
What are you working on now?
Writing the next book and setting up promotions for the new release.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My press does a good job with promoting. I follow their advice and set up a few of my own small promotions. Of course, social media posts are a good way to reach readers as well.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Try not to be discouraged with rejections. That’s one of the hardest things. We all get them. Just keep doing what you love. Now that there are so many options for publishing, it’s not like the old days, and one way or another you can get that book out there!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love.
What are you reading now?
Wrapped Up in You by Jill Shalvis.
What’s next for you as a writer?
More of the same. I will continue to work on my book and look forward to having another to publish!
What is your favorite book of all time?
Little Women. I remember being so horrified when Amy burned Jo’s manuscript! It’s funny how as a teenager I had a deep appreciation of writing.
