Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
After working as a secretary for several years, I returned to Oakton Community College and earned my Associate Degree with Honors. My English professor strongly influenced my writing skills encouraging me to write. This sparked an interest in writing stories by myself and with my two granddaughters. Each grandchild inspired my writing.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Bumper Bird’s Adventure was based on a true story. I actually saw a bird on the bumper of a car in a suburb of Chicago. My interest in birds inspired this writing. I have been known by neighbors and friends as loving parakeets. As a result, rescued parakeets from pools and backyards were brought to me in cages and wrapped in towels.
In my home I raised several clutches of birds and show pictures in my book. I enjoyed writing this book and hope children and their parents will enjoy reading this also.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have several writing habits but my favorite is writing and typing with my granddaughters either on the computer or in a writing pad. We laugh and have a good time writing together.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
What are you working on now?
I have a very interesting idea based on my childhood reading of all of the Nancy Drew Mysteries by Carolyn Keene. I am writing about two girls who make several magical discoveries.
Also I have an Adult Book I am writing which is near completion (can’t tell you more because it is a very novel idea, I think)
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
That is why I am here searching for the very best method to promote my wonderful children’s book “Bumper Bird’s Adventure”
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you are a new author I advice you to Not Give Up! Writing involves rewrites and more rewrites. Then editing again and again until you feel that your story is as perfect as you can make it. Also get a good illustrator. Never allow yourself to be totally discouraged. Know that there are children out there waiting for happy informative stories. The world needs more and more effective story writing skills.
