Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Donna, I live in the centre of England, where I can be found eating chocolate biscuits, reading, occasionally writing, and singing (badly) along to 90’s music. I’ve written 2 books – Fall in Love With Life and Obstacle Busting.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Obstacle Busting is the last book I published, and it was an accident! It was meant to be a 20 page free ebook to go along with a course I was creating. And it morphed into a 50 thousand word book!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
For my latest book, I have not set a deadline, not pushed myself (I stressed myself out trying to speed write and publish the other 2!). It’s taking forever, but I haven’t been stressed! (Think I’ll go for some kind of middle ground next time!)
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are far too many to mention. I’ve been a bookworm since I was first able to read, and every single author and book has fed my love for books and writing.
What are you working on now?
Feel Good Foundations is the book I’m working on right now, and it was inspired by years of coaching clients about making their lives better. The feel good foundations are the things I always get my clients to work on first, because when the foundations are strong, the rest of life is easier.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Talk about them ten times more than you are comfortable with! People’s attention spans are short – 5 years after I released my first book I realised several people I knew relatively well didn’t know I wrote at all! Even though I felt like I’d talked about it endlessly!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Ok, I know it’s basic. But you can’t get your book done unless you write. So write. Then write some more. Write through the bad days. Write through the good days. Write through the self-doubt. And just keep writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just keep swimming.
What are you reading now?
A detective series set in the 2nd world war; Patriarchy Stress Disorder; and about 15 others I’ve started and not (yet) finished.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Feel Good Foundations will hopefully be out at the end of this year, then I’m going back to a book I wrote over 15 years ago to see if it can be revived, updated, edited properly and released.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I can’t pick one. I have a hundred or more books I read over and over again.
