Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m scientist by trade, working across chemistry and computer science, largely on artificial intelligence and its applications to chemistry. I’ve now drafted around 10 books, and am slowly getting them edited and ready for publication.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Shadow Eclipse: Voyage, the first of the Shadow Eclipse series. It was inspired by two ideas. The first was the question ‘why were there so few books about space vampires, surely, vampires would be quite good at space travel right?’ I also love fantasy novels, but I always wondered what the stories were like from the point of view of the ‘villains’. After all, just because someone is, say, a vampire, or an orc doesn’t mean they are a bad person, does it?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ve had to travel a lot for my job, so a lot my writing has been done in airport bars, usually standing up (so I don’t fall asleep and miss the plane!) in the smoking area.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Anne Rice, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Anne Macaffrey.
What are you working on now?
A beat poetry cyberpunk novel about the singularity, online cults, possession, A.I. and the origin of consciousness called ‘Blood Hack’. It’s very different and much darker than the Shadow Eclipse series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like talking directly to my readers via websites and on my website and facebook page.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up, learn resilience and get a good editor!
What are you reading now?
Kraken by China Mieville, the guy’s a genius.
