Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey! I’m Elle Teller, empty nester, successful businesswoman, first time author from New York. I written two books, thus far and am currently working on book number three.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I have just released the second book in my A Good Man book series titled, A Good Man/Soul Ties.
My inspiration comes from common tropes loosely witnessed in urban communities all my life, talks with my friends, conversations held too loudly on buses and restaurants, a lover’s quarrel in the streets, you name it – inspiration comes from everywhere for me!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do. I like to write in complete silence and use earplugs to ensure that I hear nothing but my own thoughts for hours on end. This is a problem for my family but, works wonders for me!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The works of Dr. Maya Angelou, Terry McMillan, and Alice Walker have all influenced me to become a writer. No matter when you read their books, whatever the genre, the human condition of the characters and the tropes explored never seem to go out of style. They can transport the reader into the story by the power of prose.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I am working on my third and final book of A Good Man series, targeted for release in February 2024.
After that, I already have another book idea lined-up which will be just a feel-good, laugh-out-loud with a dash of raunch read!
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The jury is still out on that one!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you have an insatiable desire to write, then you must write. Get it done, publish, and you will find your market.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t waste your time waiting for things to fall into place for you, that’s just a disguised way to procrastinate. Make things fall into place, by getting into action.
What are you reading now?
I am reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and Big Feelings by Liz Fosslien & Mollie West Duffy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My goal in becoming a writer is to share pearls of wisdom and inspiration that I have been privileged to receive throughout my entire life from strong women of color. Storytelling is a powerful gift, and I feel compelled to share their stories so that others may benefit from their experiences as I have. That’s what writing is about for me.
Readers can expect an anthology book series from me in the future.
What is your favorite book of all time?
My favorite book of all time is, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Dr. Maya Angelou. I never get tired of reading it! There are so many parallels to Dr. Angelou’s life story to that of my own, and when I read the book it grounds me!
