Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a science fiction, superhero, and fantasy author with high-functioning autism. I am also a passionate pit bull owner with two male pit bulls named Wally and Fitch, who I affectionately nickname “The Boo Bears”. I have written and published three superhero books, two fantasy books, and one science fiction short story.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is “The War of the Gilded Beasts” and it is based on the War of the Roses, which was the bloodiest civil war in English history. I watched countless medieval documentaries to gain authentic inspiration for the story.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to watch Forged in Fire on History Channel and listen to anime music while I am writing. Doing all that simultaneously helps me concentrate.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Inheritance Cycle and A Song of Ice and Fire have had a great influence on me as both a writer and reader.
What are you working on now?
I am working on the third volume of my ongoing fantasy series. It will revolve around an emperor’s life and reign from start to finish. There will be bloody battles, political intrigue, the unification of an empire, and the consolidation of a dynasty.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method would be Tweeting about my books on Twitter. If you Tweet enough times, potential readers will find you.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
History is a goldmine of inspiration. If you can find a good enough historical event like the War of the Roses, then you can use that as a model for your story. It doesn’t even need to be a fantasy story. It could also be a western, feudal Japan, or ancient Rome/Greece. For science fiction stories, you can give it elements from the selected time period. The possibilities are limitless.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If you ever find yourself suffering from writer’s block, write something even if it is just a word or sentence. Then the words will come pouring out.
What are you reading now?
I am reading Fire and Blood, which talks about the history of the Targaryen Dynasty from Game of Thrones.
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish my current fantasy project, I am planning to write a new superhero series that will take place in an alternate 2020.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I would have to say Eragon from the Inheritance Cycle because it shows how humans and dragons can bond with one another on a spiritual level.
