Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Due to childhood deafness, the writer inside created stories to match the pictures in the books being read to me. Once my hearing was corrected at the age of 7, I fell in love with storytelling.
I’m a Psych major with criminology minor. I was a forensic interviewer and an investigator for abused children before becoming a stay-at-home mother of identical twin boys.
When I’m not writing, I’m hiking the woods, wandering the beach, saving the world in video games, or creating magic with cross-stitching.
My six-book dark fantasy series, Elementas, is my prized possession. I can’t wait to share my story with the world. Elementas: Yamay and Elementas: War of the Gods are out now!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book, Elementas: War of the Gods, is the second book in my six-book series. The theme is mortals defying the gods with an inspiration of “no such things as happily ever after.” It is dark, but I write dark fantasy, so I would have it no other way.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I need dead silence. The real world is too loud for me to focus on the one I created.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can’t say any author or book has influenced me. I love fantasy as a whole, but let their fantasy world be their own.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on book three of my series. It is already written, so now I’m furiously editing it.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had better luck networking on Facebook than any other social media platform.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
PROMOTE BEFORE PUBLISHING. Want to write a book? Promote it! Wrote a chapter? Promote it! My biggest mistake was not promoting beforehand.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“This is not a zero-sum game. Someone else’s success does not diminish your own.”
What are you reading now?
“Before They Are Hanged” by Joe Abercrombie.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m diving deep into book three of my series. There will be six total, so no more dillydallying.
What is your favorite book of all time?
“Name of the Wind” by Patrick Rothfuss.
