Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in New York, growing up there before moving to Massachusetts in order to attend Harvard University’s prestigious weekend bartending course. I was also an English minor at Brandeis, where I did a bit of creative writing. But recently I had enough free time to sit down and write my first full-length novel. I’m now looking forward to my next project, raising a newborn daughter alongside my wonderful wife.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Dystopia’s Edge is a Cyberpunk Action-Adventure. I’ve always enjoyed beach reads that can be read quickly for a thrill. I’ve also always enjoyed the Cyberpunk genre because it can convey themes about how advancements in technology don’t always coincide with advancements in the human standard of living.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My wife goes to bed about an hour before I do. For about a year, I thought I’d try using that time to punch away at a keyboard instead of just playing videogames. The result was that I appear to have written a novel.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can’t speak highly enough for the works of Candice Millard. Her historical narratives on Theodore Roosevelt and James A. Garfield were outstanding. There’s no other word for them.
What are you working on now?
Right now, I’m preparing for the birth of my daughter. I may have another novel in the works. But given what’s going on in my personal life, that’s kind of taking a back seat.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I got some love on the Cyberpunk subreddit. And the Cyberpunk Facebook group. It think it helps to know your audience.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Put in the time. If you do that, you’re already ahead of most people who just think about writing.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keith Richards once said at once of his concerts, “It’s good to see everybody! Heck, it’s good to see anybody!”
What are you reading now?
“Nation” by Terry Pratchett. It’s fun to see things he wrote outside the Discworld franchise.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve got another project in the works. I hear you can get back into this game once the baby is a few months old and sleeping more regularly. I guess we’ll see.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Oof. Tough one. I guess I’d have to say “And Now My Soul is Hardened” by Alan M Ball. It’s a rough read about the effects World War I had on children in Russia. But it makes you appreciate the fragility of humanity and how we need treat our fellow humans well.
