Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Jaka Tomc, soon to be 38, living in Ljubljana, Slovenia. I’ve written six books so far, three of them were bestsellers in my home country.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called 720 Heartbeats. It’s a story about a detective who discovers a mysterious diary. I won’t go into details, because I don’t want to spoil a book for you.
I’m not really sure where I got the inspiration for it. Usually I just sit down and start writing. I always wanted to write about parallel universes, and I did in this book.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I walk around a lot. I smoke a lot too, while I write. Sometimes I go out, to a bar, and write amongst people. The energy gets me going.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Arthur C. Clarke, Christopher Moore and Neil Gaiman.
What are you working on now?
At the moment all my energy goes into promotion of 720 Heartbeats. I’m also publishing the sequel of my first novel in September. Then – who knows?
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I usually promote my books on Facebook, sometimes Twitter. In general word-of-mouth promotion is still the best.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never give up. You will get rejections. Some people will say that you need to find a real job. That you need stop dreaming. Never stop dreaming. If you feel you’re a writer – write.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t listen to other people’s advice.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to sell 100.000 books.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke is still my favourite book and I read it 15, maybe 20 years ago.
