Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Siphon: Power Comes With A Price is my first book. I had written a few screenplays and wanted to try my hand at something bigger. When the pandemic hit, my day job slowed down, so I had more time to write a book.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Siphon: Power Comes With A Price
I grew up watching the X-files, Star Trek, Independence Day and Superman. If you put them in a blender, you would get my book Siphon.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write chapter titles and then I create a story to get me from one chapter to the next. If I think of a cool thing my main character would say I write it down and then try to incorporate it into the book. I’m more a storyteller than a writer. If you read my book, it is all about the story and characters.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I think my biggest influence was David Gemmell. I explore the same concepts of heroism that is present in all his books. The choice to do good is often not easy.
I also believe the use of power to do good has consequences and I explore them in my writing.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a supernatural story which is a retelling of an obscure Grimm’s fairytale.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Writing is a solitary and somewhat introverted process but once you’re done you have to act like a salesperson. I have struggled pivoting from writing to promotion. This interview is me stepping outside of my comfort zone.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
I’m too new at this arena to have profound words of encouragement. I think regardless of what you write the most important thing is to have the reader care. If they don’t care about what is happening to your characters, then you’ve lost them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
A more famous and skilled writer that me told me it takes more than a story and cool concept to be a writer.
What are you reading now?
I’m reading Pariah by Anthony Rand.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I may have to do a sequel for Siphon. The protagonist made an impression on more readers than I expected. I don’t see the story yet but give me time and I may have another Apollo story to tell.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The entire Troy series by David Gemmell is on my list.
Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett), American Gods (Neil Gaiman), Battle Mage (Peter Flannery) Watership Down (Richard Adams)
