Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a physician (radiologist) living and practicing in the middle Tennessee area, near Nashville. I wrote and published my first book this past summer.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Total Makeover!
52 Surprisingly Simple & Enjoyable Steps to Renovate Your:
Spiritual/Emotional Well-being, Physical Health, Social Interactions, Finances
This was a project I undertook in conjunction with family members. My main motivation in writing this book was to leave suggestions, and hopefully words of wisdom, for my grandchildren. If others can find benefit as well, all the better.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Other than procrastination, no. I had the idea for this book, and wrote the basic outline, about 8 years earlier. When I found myself with some extra time on my hands due to Covid-19, I decided that if I ever was going to complete this project, now was the time.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a History buff. In particular, I enjoy reading biographies of successful people in all walks of life. I find them very inspirational. I also enjoy “self help” literature, especially many of the classics, and I read a lot of financial literature as well.
What are you working on now?
Total Makeover! was the first book in a planned series we entitled the Reframe Your Life Series. I’ve got a few ideas for subsequent books and am in the process of narrowing the choices and getting started on the next book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
This is a totally new endeavor for me, and I didn’t come to it with a social media following or a brand or anything like that, so I’m figuring it out as I go. I’m trying several different options to see what works best given my circumstances.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t procrastinate like I did! If you’ve always had the dream to write a book, don’t hesitate to give it your best shot. Keep your ideas and plans to yourself as much as possible, but if others do try to throw a wet blanket on your goal, don’t let them.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep a positive attitude! Don’t let the negativity that is especially pervasive these days keep you from taking your shots and striving to meet and exceed your goals!
What are you reading now?
I’m always reading two to three books at any given time, primarily nonfiction but occasionally novels as well. I like to re-read my favorite books also. I find that this is the best way for me to really absorb and incorporate the good ideas and suggestions into my day-to-day life. I’m hoping that maybe my books will fulfill that same role for others someday.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Book number two in the Reframe Your Life Series.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I have many! Several of my top favorites I’ve re-read many times over.
