Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Jezza Deep, an indie author, poet, and anime critic with a passion for blending mysticism, romance, and mythology into my work. I’ve written several books, including the Fractured Desires Trilogy, the YA series Fires Within, Recapturing Fate, and a children’s book series called Bedtime Stories for Children. My debut novel, Seven of Sins, explores themes of redemption, and my poetry has been recognized internationally.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Fractured Desires: Fallen book 3 of the trilogy and to be honest my crazy bestie dared me to write an erotic series because of the poetry I won contests with so I did hence my greatest creations were born.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have insomnia so I’m basically a vampire so my habit is writing in the dead of night until my head hits the keyboard then I know I’m tired.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Wow.. so many to count as having a main one. I have been influenced by many genres by many writers and stories each for their own merit.
What are you working on now?
Book two of Fires Within my YA series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Still working on this actually. Trying to find my correct grove.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best tip I can offer is writing and editing is two different steps. Have you been writing and then stopped to read what you wrote and found all these spelling and grammar errors? so you go back and fix them and then spend endless hours fiddling with what you just wrote? Well, that’s like trying to tie your shoes while running. It’s going to take you twice as long to finish your project. Plus you might spend endless hours playing with a section of your story only to realize you don’t need it.
Split these steps up, the first draft is the rough sketch of your story, you mold it into the shape you like, and then when you get into your editing, that is where you start getting rid of the clutter and adding detail to places.
If you do this you’re writing will become so much faster. And to find your voice: read a lot and write a lot you can’t find your voice if you’re not working out those muscles. Good luck and have fun!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Neal Gaiman said something along the lines of ‘every writer has 300 terrible stories inside them and your job as a new writer is to get them all out of you so you can get to the good ones’.
What are you reading now?
Shogun by James Clavell.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Finishing up book two of Fires Within called Smolder then onto The Crimson Allure Trilogy.
What is your favorite book of all time?
That’s an easy question … Desperation by Stephen King
