Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I live and work in Northern Ireland. My healthy obsession with wargaming and table top role play games eventually led me to write my own stories. I have been writing fantasy books since 2012; i completed my first full novel as part of the November writing challenge ‘Nanowrimo’. I am husband to a very supportive wife, father to an energetic 5 year old and 2 year old and gaming enthusiast.
My series ‘Haldred Chronicles’ is set in a post-war world and follows the investigations of Victoria Haldred, a Council of Peace investigator, as she battles to maintain a fragile peace.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Haldred Chronicles: Anna is the latest in my book series. With this book I decided to mix inspiration from Viking and Samurai history, with the usual crime and politics thrown in.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I find myself both writing then reaching across and painting some miniatures. It’s not time efficient at all…but I enjoy it.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Terry Pratchett, Aaron Dembski-Bowden,
What are you working on now?
The fifth book of the series “Haldred Chronicles: Mira”.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still very much trying to figure that out. But Pretty-hot.com seems to do a good job 😎
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be prepared to spend a lot of time doing marketing. Lay the ground work as you’re writing and then once your book is ready and out there, go for it with all you’ve got.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write. You can’t edit an empty page. In all seriousness that is the best advice. If you don’t write well then, you’re not a writer are you?
What are you reading now?
The Siege of Terra sci fi series.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Fifth book and a LOT of promotion
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Bible. No, no hear me out. It has everything. History, poetry, songs, life advice, action, romance, mystery, politics. Really, this book has everything. Hence the title “The Good Book”
