Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there! My name is Jon’te Aycox. A self-published author of two books and an artist, from Las Vegas NV.
Both of my books are fiction short stories.
My first book is called, ‘Sweet September,’ Lovers Of Spring.’ & the sequel to my first book, is the second book, ‘A Sweet September Christmas.’
I’m grateful that I had a few sales on my books and Art, but I hope to one day be able to make a living as an author and artist, full time.
In addition to that, I do work a full-time job to keep the bills paid and food on the table, while I’m pursuing my dreams as an author and artist.
I feel through our God-given talent, we’re all here to help make the world better. Through all that I do, and through my talents, I hope to continue to spread joy and peace, and more.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my first book is ‘Sweet September’ and the sequel to that book, which is my second book, that is called, ‘A Sweet September Christmas.’
What inspired my first book, Sweet September, is the cause of my love of nature and that whole down-home family’s love.
My book takes place in the South of Mississippi. I have never been there before but I know some from there and heard some good things about it.
I use to live on the East Coast. Back East always had those family gatherings and down-home cooking. Also beautiful seasons of weather and nature. It’s just such a different world in those areas.
I’m more of a city guy but also I have lived some years on the East Coast. I also love soul and country music.
Mississippi is the South, that whole southern country down home thing. The East Coast is just like that. I use to live in Virginia.
Just growing up in some good memories with my family out there and the gardening and fishing, and cooking also inspired me to incorporate that in my books.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes, I do. Lol
I have to learn to be careful. I do admit that I’ve never been the best at grammar. I have gotten better. One thing I know is that I can tell a good story.
My habit is, I tend to use the wrong words that sound the same. For example, If I use a word like no or know, I might use the wrong one. Like if I wrote, She doesn’t no) but it’s suppose to be, know.
I think that I do that cause in my head, im writing but I have to pay close attention. It’s cause it sounds the same.
Sometimes while writing, I want to get it all down but end up not putting the periods in the right place. Instead, I use a comma. But sometimes I combined the whole thing.
My dad use to tell me that I write the way I talk. When I talk, I go on and on. But soon that period has to break the sentence, so the readers won’t run out of breath.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
To be honest, I don’t really have any well-known authors that I’ve followed or even been influenced by.
There have been some unknown authors. I read their work on Wattpad online. I do want to get more into checking out more authors.
Those unknown authors have inspired me also.
What are you working on now?
I’m doing new Art and promoting my books online.
I’m about to start working on part 3, of the ‘Sweet September’ series also.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I found a site called, Draft2Digital. It’s free for authors.
The cool thing about that site is when the author posts their ebook on there, the site gives you many options to also post your books on other books sites, like Kobo, Smash Word, Barnes & Noble, and more.
The site will automatically post it on all of those online booksellers’ sites, through the Draft2Digital.
I find social media to be a good platform. Facebook has many book groups to promote on their pages.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice is to be yourself when writing your book.
If you’re not good at grammar or writing, you can always download the actual Grammarly program.
If you have the money to hired am editor, then of course do it.
But at the same time, be yourself and break the rules a little bit.
Have fun with writing.
I’ve noticed in the writing world, people are so mean.
They’re good at pointing out the author’s mistakes and even the way they tell a story.
Write from a place of joy and use your craft to inspire and spread happiness.
Don’t take the criticisms the wrong way. Believe in yourself and just have fun.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That through our talents, we all have a purpose on earth.
Rather if you’re a doctor or housekeeper, writer or artist, whatever your passion is, through that, you can help others.
Changing the world for the better.
What are you reading now?
Nothing at this moment. But I do plan on going back to the Wattpad site, to check out some authors.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I plan on writing a couple more books. Gonna create a children’s book.
I also want to create my art book, which will have all my arts in one book. Like a picture book.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I don’t have one at this moment.
