Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve written many books, but only published two. The first was my story about my war with mental illness and the struggle I’ve had to get past my demons and move into a better mind set. I’m an advocate for mental health awareness and will fight to end the stigma on it forever.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Through the Eyes of a Friend is about my relationship and friendship with my best friend who, unfortunately, succumbed to her mental illness and killed herself in 2018. I hope to help people know how much it hurt so that maybe, just maybe, I can help save a life.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Dan Wells and his John Cleaver series really had an impact on my life. It’s weird to say that, since it’s about a teenager who wanted more than anything to not become a serial killer. The fact that he succeeded is awesome and really helped me.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a follow up to Failure to Thrive – My Journey to Mental Health, called More Than Our Yesterdays. It’s a workbook inside of a story.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m not sure yet.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write. Do your best and get it on paper! You’ll be amazing if you just put your mind to it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t worry about it being perfect. You can’t edit a blank page.
What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading a lot of non-fiction. The latest of which is The Willpower Instinct, by Kelly McGonigal. Such an amazing book. Everyone should read it!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m going to publish the one I’m working on, then I’d like to start in on some fiction books. I’m done with non-fiction for a while. Too heavy.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I honestly don’t know that I can answer that. Too many absolutely amazing ones. I love Harry Potter, The Christy Series by Cindy Hogan, and the John Cleaver series by Dan Wells.
