Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a forty-two-year-old wife and mother of four(I still can’t believe I have four kids!) I have a fifteen-year-old son, eleven-year-old daughter, and eight-year-old boy/girl twins. When I’m not driving them around, I teach preschool and write books. I have an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from DePaul University. I have written three contemporary romance books in The New Ever After Series. Currently, I’m working on a stand-alone novel titled, Mapping Magic.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Another Tomorrow. It’s a story about friendship and second chances. I’m so inspired by the many strong women I’ve met who regardless of how hard things get for them they are good friends, mothers and wives/girlfriends.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Umm…well, I got so involved with my characters when I was writing my first book, Tripped Up Love, that I almost ordered the main love interest a pair of shoes online. It wasn’t until I got to the sizing info that I remembered he wasn’t real!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Just to name a few-Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Marisa de los Santos, Sarah Addison-Allen. I’m reading a lot of YA books lately. I love the intensity and rawness of the emotions. Rainbow Rowell and John Green are some of my favorites.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a stand-alone novel titled, Mapping Magic. It’s essentially a love story but not in the typical sense. Of course there’s some romance in it but my characters spend time exploring love and what it is and how it appears and disappears.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I love blogging about my life and giving my readers a taste of my thoughts. I also love posting positive and uplifting quotes on Facebook and other social media sites.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what’s in your soul. Oh, and write every single day.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The fastest way to break the cycle of perfectionism and become a fearless mother is to give up the idea of doing it perfectly – indeed to embrace uncertainty and imperfection.”
Arianna Huffington
Embracing imperfection is one of the keys to motherhood…and life.
What are you reading now?
I just finished The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan and The Dept of Speculation by Jenny Offill.
What’s next for you as a writer?
After I finish Mapping Magic, I’ll continue work on a YA book set in the 1980s. Right now it feels a little too personal as I just so happened to be a young adult in the 80s…but maybe that’s okay, maybe that’s what will make it more interesting.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Gosh, I feel like I have a new favorite everyday but I always adore Pride and Prejudice and also love I Capture the Castle.
