Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Katelynn R. Butler has been reading and dreaming up her own stories since she was a child. She procured her first library card at eight and has continued to ransack her local libraries since, reading anything she could get her hands on. She has received a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in Religious Studies and spends most of her days writing. Otherwise, she can be found baking, knitting, researching vintage and historical dress, or spoiling her two rescue cats. I am Become is her first novel. The sequel, From Embers and Ashes, will be published soon on Amazon.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I am Become was inspired by several different things. Mostly, my love of fantasy, but I also grew up reading the dystopian and utpoian themes in the Hunger Games and the Giver which have directly impacted my worldview. These types of stories, along with many others, inspired the idea for I am Become and its subsequent sequels.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have terrible writing posture. I call it goblin posture. It's something I need to work on for sure because it kills my shoulders!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sarah J. Maas, Ava Reid, Erin A. Craig, Elise Kova, Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, Leigh Bardugo, Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen King, Marissa Meyer, Stephanie Meyer, Hannah Whitten, Cormac McCarthy, V.E. Schwab, Naomi Novik, Samantha Shannon, Holly Black, Cassandra Clare
What are you working on now?
The sequel to I am Become, Embers and Ashes.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I've just dipped my toes into the marketing pool and am trying to figure everything out. I have concluded that websites such as Pretty-Hot.com are incredibly helpful to indie-hybrid authors such as myself.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. It may take a while for your story to hit the shelves (physically or online) but you can do it. If you believe in your story and work hard to hone your skills, you can publish it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The only way to fail is to never try.
What are you reading now?
I am reading Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare and listening to the Pine Deep Trilogy by Johnathan Maberry.
What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish my edits for Embers and Ashes and figure out my next marketing plan.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Oh gosh, this is a hard one. I have so many favorites! I love Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, which is the first book to come to mind. But I also enjoy the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas and the Emily Wilde Series by Heather Fawcett.
