Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Keath Silva. I am a transgender poet and healing arts practitioner. I transcribed a book for a beloved teacher called Fire Heart The life and Teachings of Traditional Maya Healer of Belize, Miss Beatrice Torres Waight. I also wrote two books of my own poetry; King Crone and The Empty Nest and Lady Death.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called King Crone and The Empty Nest; a Collection of TRANSformational Poetry for Rites of Passage. My gender transition and the end of my at home parenting years inspired this collection of poems.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes. I do not intentionally sit down to write a poem. The poems tap me on the shoulder and it is my job to respond. Wherever I am when I feel a poem coming, I need to get alone with a pen quick before it is lost!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love all the works of Alok Vaid-Menon. I also love all the works of Isabel Allende.
What are you working on now?
I am preparing to write my next collection of poems which means I am open to when they arise. I am ready to be of service to them, to give them voice and a container to be shared with the world.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I get a lot of interest in my work for Instagram.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes! Just write! The book has a life of its own. Do not worry about what people will think, or how it will get published, just focus on bringing forth your unique piece of art and let the rest take care of itself.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Stay in the present moment and trust the journey!
What are you reading now?
Kiss Her Once For Me by Alison Cochran.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My book King Crone is getting a lot of attention and I have been asked to write articles for various publications so that is a new learning curve for me. I am also beginning g to perform my poetry in more live settings and to incorporate them into choral performances.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Water Dancer by TA-NEHISI COATES
