Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I grew up outside of Philadelphia and attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. After working in the mental health and legal fields, I decided to pursue my writing career, finishing the novel I began the day after I graduated from college. Influenced by all the women who fight for a more equitable world, my writing focuses on strong female characters and social justice issues. The Darling was my debut novel. It is the first novel of the three-book Ionian Continent Series that is now published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Rebel is my latest book and also the conclusion of the Ionian Continent Series. It was inspired by current events, as well as my graduate studies.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m usually the most productive late at night when everything is quite and everyone else is asleep. It lets me escape into a cocoon with my laptop, able to focus solely on my characters.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many authors and books have influenced me over the years, and it would be impossible to account for them all here. But The Great Library series by Rachel Caine immediately comes to mind, as does Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen. Those are favorites of mine.
What are you working on now?
I am starting a new series, still untitled. It is set in a completely different universe than the Ionian Continent Series and has more fantasy elements. It’s been fun letting my imagination run wild in building a new world!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep at it, even if that means some days just writing one sentence. Any progress is good progress.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That what matters most is that you try your best and have fun, no matter the outcome.
What are you reading now?
The Black Bird Oracle by Deborah Harkness.
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m planning to continue working on my new novel. After that, we’ll see.
What is your favorite book of all time?
I don’t have one. I have an entire bookcase full of novels that I treasure and enjoy going back and rereading.
