Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Krystal and I am married to a professional drummer. We live in Nashville, TN where we are raising our three boys.
Our home is filled with lots of noise, laughter, and farts. As crazy as it can get sometimes, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I just published my first book and I am super excited to share it with the world.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is named The Church’s Orphans: How the Church Can Protect Couples Longing for Parenthood.
My inspiration to write this came from all my years as a Preacher’s Kid where within our churches I began to notice people who felt marginalized or outcast within their own church family.
This book is the beginning of a series where I will dive into one group of people with each book.
This book is about couples walking the road of infertility. I have a few dear friends who have, and are still, walking this road. I wrote this book on their behalf to the church as a whole, hoping we can learn to love these couples better in the midst of their painful journey.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I have unusual habits, but I often have to leave my house to write because I get distracted by all the laundry, dishes, and cleaning I COULD be doing. If I stay home and write, I will likely never get it done!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love Mark Batterson and his depth of writing for the family and the church as a whole. As a pastor, his messaging resonates with me deeply.
I have also gleaned a lot from Jen Hatmaker’s honesty in her writing. I long to be very similar in my transparency.
What are you working on now?
I am working on a Bible Study that goes thematically with The Church’s Orphans series, as well as finalizing the idea for the next Church’s Orphans book in the series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m really new to the promotion game, so I will have to keep you posted on what works best for me.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
My best advice is to JUST DO IT! So many things and reasons would hamstring me from finishing my book and sharing it with the world. There is so much good on the other side of your art and message- so don’t wait- LET IT OUT!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My dad used to always say to me as a kid, “Remember who you are and whose you are.” He was referring to my identity in Christ and while as a little girl, that never fully resonated, as an adult, remembering WHO I am and who the Lord created me to be has helped carry me through many circumstances with success.
What are you reading now?
Currently I am reading some new manuscripts for unreleased projects, however, the small free time I have is dedicated to reading exerts from Jonathan Kinle’s Keep Up Your Biblical Hebrew and Keep Up Your Biblical Greek. I know… super nerdy.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Next I will finish my second book in this series.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Favorite book of all time is Manhunt by James Swanson. I have read anything I can get my hands on about Abraham Lincoln since I was in the 4th grade. And Swanson’s book brought to life the hunt for Lincoln’s killer in a way that I was able to follow on my own search one day. It was thrilling to read.
