Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hey everyone! My name is Leeann Mays and I am an avid book lover, bookworm, romance addict turned new aspiring author! I started writing out of boredom. I had read countless books in one sitting, and was so disappointed when the story ended, that I sought out to write my own book–except that ended up turning into a 5 book series. LOL.
I never intended to publish but after letting my friends read the first book, I was encourage to share my story online and so I did. It was only after receiving a few hundred emails from fans who were crazed about the story, was I pushed into publishing. I will be forever thankful to my loyal, loving readers.
Since then I have written 14 books and will slowly be releasing them over the next year!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Lotus Keeper (Book 1 of 5) is the first book to be released. There were many contributors to my inspiration for this book including the Fifty Shades of Grey series I read when I was only 18, Twilight, and an article I happened to read earlier that morning about one of the largest cocaine busts to have ever gone down. It wasn’t until I started to do some research did I realize that human trafficking is often intertwined with drugs smuggling and arms dealing.
Combined, those are three of the largest illegal money-making crimes. It seemed fitting for this dark tale.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes!! Whenever I write, there can often be a jar of dill pickles and peanut butter nearby. Combined together, its a great snack while writing! LOL.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are way too many authors and favorite books to list them fairly.
What are you working on now?
Currently, I am wrapping up the necessary steps to publish the first 5 books within 2019 and also working on my next series–but I can’t give too much away. I will say, it’ll be out of this world. An original idea unlike anything else.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, writing was never intended to be a career; I write in my free time, so advertising and promoting my work has never been at the forefront of my mind. I write to keep myself entertained, and it just so happened other too along the way.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to explore the unknown, and do what you love, not what you think your readers want to see.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Don’t worry about the story being too dark. Sometimes you have to be willing to take your readers to a place they would never go on their own.”
What are you reading now?
A leadership novel–I don’t remember the name.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Deciding which idea I want to pluck out of my idea book and begin writing. I don’t think I’ll ever stop writing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
The Count of Monte Cristo–if you ever read The Lotus Series, it’ll all make sense. Hahaha
