Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Lianne James and I write clean, sweet women’s fiction. I have written one book so far, but my series (A Love on Turtle Island) will have seven books in all!
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Sandcastles and Second Chances. I wrote it to feature a second-chance love story with older characters because I believe love is possible at any age! I found love later in life, and want to remind women of all ages that the “You jump, I jump!” love is out there waiting for them!
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write in bursts, so I won’t come up for air for two weeks and then I won’t crack my laptop open for three months. So, I sort of have to go with whatever mood I’m in, but because of this quirk, I can crank out full-length books in well under 14 days!
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng, and anything by Matt Haig. However, when it comes to the women’s fiction I write, I have been inspired by several best-selling indie authors on sites like Amazon. To name a few, Rachael Bloome, Amelia Addler, and Jennifer Griffith!
What are you working on now?
I’m halfway through my second book in the A Love on Turtle Island series. It’s called, Saltwater and Serendipity, and is about a grumpy millionaire who spends one magical day with a stranger before they get separated, and then enlists the entire island to help him track her down so he can propose to her.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am big on organic marketing, so word of mouth, gifting books to friends who might enjoy it and start a dialogue about it. I’m slowly trying to build a social media following, but it doesn’t come naturally to me!
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t waste time worrying if you’ll be any good! I wasted too many years with that type of useless anxiety. Just do it, as the slogan says! It’s popular for a reason! If your work is awful, you can always edit it. Plus, with each new book, you’ll get better and better. The key is action, not sitting around wishing, hoping, and daydreaming. Those things do nothing but rob you of the life you want!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is not a dress rehearsal. We only get one chance, so why not take a few risks?
What are you reading now?
I usually have 3-5 books going at once! I saw a cute shirt with an octopus who had a book on each tentacle. That about sums me up! But I’ve recently stumbled on Carley Fortune and her writing is exquisite!
What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m aiming to have at least 3 of my A Love on Turtle Island series books up by the end of summer!
What is your favorite book of all time?
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig is such a beautiful, enchanting read!
