Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
A native New Yorker and lifelong writer, I began my first boutique business at age 3 1/2 with my aunt; we made custom greeting cards using my verses and her drawings.
At age 9, I had my first poem published in a campus magazine.
At age 9, I had my first one-act play onstage (cast: 5 girls) and it ran for several months in NYC.
I have six poetry titles to my credit.
Additionally, my writing often appears in themed anthologies.
I have also written chapters for my colleagues’ academic books.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Women Who Were Warned” was inspired by newspaper articles about female suicides, murders, and other crimes involving women as well as poems about the difficult choices women must make.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write every day and often my Siamese cats will stretch out across my keyboard as I’m writing — and yet I keep going.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many fine poets have influenced me but most especially Chaucer, Froissart, The Pearl Poet, Shakespeare, Milton, Tennyson, and Coleridge.
What are you working on now?
“Dark and Airy Spirits” — a poetry collection about true ghost encounters.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Book Sales Funnels and writing guests posts.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Join or start a critique group as soon as possible.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Start “in medias res.”
What are you reading now?
The galleys of my forthcoming hardcover book “Apprenticed to the Night.” It will be available from Beacon Books in early 2023.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My forthcoming chapbook “Always Haunted: Hallowe’en Poems” as well as “Dark and Airy Spirits” — a poetry collection about true ghost encounters.
What is your favorite book of all time?
“The Canterbury Tales” by Geoffrey Chaucer. This poetry book and the star-crossed classmate who introduced it to me influenced my poem “My Dungeon Ghost” in my chapbook “Women Who Were Warned.” While I was becoming a medieval scholar, my former classmate was becoming a mass murderer. He channeled me from his cell in Broward County Prison. Chaucerian quotes appear in “My Dungeon Ghost.”
