Lucas Alan is a unknown poet, that is anti-spoken word and believes there needs to be a new poetry that does not evolve around trauma porn.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
for god’s throw away children: Poems on Wisconsin and Minnesota abandoned towns, roads, mines, and cemeteries

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I smoke cigars, drink coffee, and and eavesdrop coffee shops. I also do not read contemporary poetry.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I am influenced by mostly anyone before 1950.
What are you working on now?
Thanks to the Minnesota State Arts Board and to the working-people of Minnesota, I received a grant to poetically and photographically document the graves of indigenous and indigent people. The book will be called “Minnesota Nice is a Graveyard”

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not go into poetry to be a celeb. Do not go to school for poetry. Do not get into spoken word, because it is trauma porn for the lowest denominator.
