Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, My name is Maxine and Unglorious War Revised Edition is my first book I have written although I did revise it from its original form. I just had my second book accepted for publication but I don’t have a date that it is coming out. I have written one western script and had several short stories published.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unglorious War Revised Edition was inspired by all the Veterans I have known throughout my life and writing a story that showed the horrors of war from two people who met and fell in love because of it. So many of our Veterans came back missing limbs or having psychological problems and so many more didn’t return at all.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write with the TV on in the background. I can’t write in silence. I usually write for hours at a time, take a food break, and go back to writing some more. I have to be inspired. If there isn’t anything in the tank or as I say the well is dry, I can’t force it. Then I work on pitching other work for publication or editing something I have already written.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I can’t say one particular author has influenced me. I research my work before writing so if I have an idea for a story, I get books from the library and pour over the material until I come up with an angle to write the story.
What are you working on now?
I am editing my script to turn it into a novel and I am trying to complete the last two stories I want to write in a series of detective stories that take place in the late 1970s. I have already had a few of them published but I want to publish all of them in order in a small book.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook and looking for websites that will allow me to let people know I have a book on sale. I try to tell people I write and when I have a short story coming out, I have an email list that I notify them with the link.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep plugging away. Don’t give up. It’s really hard unless you have an in within the book industry or entertainment industry. If you do, use it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It was an anonymous quote. What does a writer fear most? Someone will read their work or someone won’t read their work. You got to believe in you. Keep plugging.
What are you reading now?
Just finished a book called Love and Poison. Excellent read but I don’t have a new book yet.
What’s next for you as a writer?
Nothing. Keep doing what I’ve been doing.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Exodus
