Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Unglorious War Revised Edition is my second book because it is a revision of my first book. I am currently working on putting together a group of short crime stories most of which have been published by magazines.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Unglorious War Revised Edition and it was inspired by my association with veterans, from Vietnam, Korea, and WW2. I also had the honor of talking to a medic who was in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I mostly write in the afternoon and at night. I like to have the TV on in the background even though I’m not watching it. I can’t have music and I can’t have quiet. Something about the TV helps me write and think what needs to be done.
What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a friend who is a writer, a prolific one, who has written at least 15 books. Her name is Jamie Lynn Miller and while I haven’t read all her books, I have enjoyed the ones I have. I like Stephen King because his first story, Carrie took thirty times before it was accepted and he didn’t give up. It gives me the incentive to keep on.
What are you working on now?
A short story collection of crime mystery. I am also involved in trying to take a script I wrote and convert it into a novella/novel.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still looking for a method.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t give up. Many popular authors are where you are. They were turned down. You have to have a thick hide-and-accept turn-downs. I had one short story turned down 300 times and was finally accepted. I believed some out there would publish it and I found a home for it.
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Writers fear two things:
Someone will read their work and
Someone won’t read their work.
Keep going and don’t give up.
What are you reading now?
I just finished a non-fiction biography so I haven’t started another book yet.
What’s next for you as a writer?
My crime stories. Keep trying to come up with new ideas and then putting it together in a book.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Exodus
