Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a huge nerd that loves video games, anything horror related (those two tend to go hand in hand), loud music and fall weather. My current obsession is Critical Role (Laudna, my beloved) and playing Stardew Valley.
I’ve OFFICIALLY only written/published one book, however, the writing folder on my laptop says otherwise.
What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Blood Harvest. Believe it or not it was a video game idea when I was in college. I took video game design and our final was to create an original game from scratch. This included the artwork, advertising, promos, etc. Let’s just say the story aspect got away from me and it turned into a novel (side note, I got an A!)?
Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t know if you’d call it unusual, as I think a lot of writers do this, but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night (i.e. woke up at 2:34am last night!) and wrote notes about a fight scene that came to me. I also have to have a very specific candle lit when writing, so… that’s a little weird, I guess?
What authors, or books have influenced you?
David Wellington’s vampire books are *chefs kiss* Kim Harrison’s series The Hollows (my little gay heart pines for one, Ivy Tamwood); Laurel Hamilton and her series featuring Anita Blake. Basically anything with a badass woman at the helm and spicy, supernatural romance!
What are you working on now?
The second novel in my Harvest series.
What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to lean heavily on Instagram, sometimes tumblr (I’m a millennial, yes I still use tumblr). I dabble on Facebook, but I’m not a huge fan of it.
Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stop rereading your own work. If you want to give it a once over, go for it, but stop trying to perfect everything. You’ll never get anything done that way. That’s what editors are for!
What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Same advice I’m giving new authors: don’t be a perfectionist when it comes to your writing!
What are you reading now?
You’d Look Better as a Ghost: A Novel, by Joanna Wallace
What’s next for you as a writer?
Getting named New York Times Best Seller! …or, in reality just finishing my second novel.
What is your favorite book of all time?
Of all time? Oh, man. I’d have to say A Fistful of Charms by Kim Harrison (I told you, I’ve a thing for Ivy!).
